Reasons for vandalism?
I've read some shocking stories of supposedly random acts of vandalism here lately. Luckily I've never had to deal with these problems. I can understand why R's are stolen, but these acts of vandalism are harder to explain. I just wanted to remind people here of a couple things.
First, no matter how much you dread getting scratches from other doors in parking lots, never take two spaces when parking. I knew a guy with a nice new Lexus who did that until he found his car scratched to hell with a key. I found it ironic that the step he took to protect his car was probably the very reason it was keyed.
Second, if you drive an easily identifiable vehicle (type-r), then be courteous when you drive. Right now I have my eye out for a certain flashy vehicle in this area that almost ran me off the road. If I ever see it in a parking lot I'll let the air out of the tires (no damage, but a huge pain in the ***). Of course I'll have to leave him a note; otherwise he may assume that I was just jealous of his huge wing.
I'm not writing this to implicate any of the victims that have posted here. I feel sorry for them if they are truly innocent. I just want to remind everyone that there are potential consequences for all of our actions.

Thanks for the thoughts on this. I agree 100%.
This is why I frown on the 'cruises' we had a few times last year in chicago. They always turned into VERY fast and loud highway cannonball runs, or 'spirited highway/coutry road driving' as it is so often called on here. Streets are for reasonable speeds and being aware by being defensive at all times to avoid other ridiculous drivers. 'Spirited' driving is for a safe environment: drag, track, autox.
This stuff, and weaving in and out of traffic, parking stupid, etc, is very scary and not a good way to represent a mature, responsible import 'scene'. I hate that word, scene, since I do not associate myself with some sort of import scene, but that is the only word I could find that fit the description.
Anyways, If you drive a flashy import, people will stereotype all flashy imports once one acts like a complete *** on the road. Letting someone go first at a 4 way stop or being extra courteous on the highway goes a long way to protecting your car from random acts of vandalism, especially if you spend alot of your time driving in one small area of a city, town, etc.
I'm glad I found autox, drag and the track. I never drove all that fast, but probably took exit ramps and on ramps a bit fast. Now I do my very best to stay clear of trouble by driving responsibly, etc. I don't do 'spirited' very often at all.
I've had my 'take it to the track: enthusiasts against street racing" stickers torn off my car and the pieces put all over my car, and had several packets of ketchup, etc, thrown all over my car. Soda, etc. You name it. Why? Who knows. But I have seen MANY cars of all types (usually the noteworthy kind, either in color or make/model) keyed, slashed tires, etc, for driving like an ***, parking like an ***, or even acting like an ***. One thing for sure... I don't park in those places EVER after things like that happen.
Please set a good example for everyone out there. That will never stop thieves, but it may help the BS vandalism that people so often complain about.

Maybe people come on this forum and they are treated extremely rudely, and then have it out for type R drivers. I have been shocked at the rude and immature comments I have seen here. Of course rude comments from a few people on a forum don't justify vandalism, but that doesn't meant they couldn't lead to it.

If people take what they read on the internet that seriously, then they have much deeper issues than vandalism.

Very true...I always give other people the right of way if there is any doubt, never tailgate or cut people off, and I don't block driveways and sidestreets when there is traffic...you should see the look of surprise on some people's faces...sort of like "OMG, a courteous import driver!"

It isn't really an if, RJ, and you know it just as well as I do.
People take disagreements on here very seriously sometimes.... as if their character is getting ripped apart. Not to mention everything else that people get 'so offended' about on the internet. I wouldn't be suprised if someone actually took out Real Life Revenge after some kind of internet scuffle. I'd be appauled, but not suprised.
Now, I agree with you, but what I am saying is that a great deal of people take most things way to seriously.

I just want to know if this has any associations with anti-honda or anti-import attitudes due to patriotsm or brand-loyalties. For example, is it often that cars like Trans Ams, Mustangs, and Camaros get vandalized as much as imports?
chris,
why bother?
while i'm courteous on the road, i dont expect special treatment or someone to "remember" my car.
in actuality,
alot of fucktards own flashy cars....more so than responsible careful adults.
its like a battle never to be won...this with a combination of thievery...well, its just hopeless.
take care of your own, and well, like fredtoast says... just avoid the fucktards.

Tom,
I don't go out of my way to the point of ridiculousness....
I just try to be a 'good citizen' on the road. I mean a yellow car with a wing and that so great sounding exhaust
is bound to get pulled over for driving like a loon, this is true. But I really don't want to be seen as some punk *** obnoxious ricer type, so I try my best to give off the impression that I'm something other than that stereotype.
I haven't had a lot of unnecessary attention drawn to my car, so either I have been lucky or I haven't pissed anyone off who feels that revenge is best executed by damaging my car, who knows what it is, i'm sure luck has a part in it.
Anyhoo, I'm a believer in Karma: "for every event that occurs, there will follow another event whose existence was caused by the first, and this second event will be pleasant or unpleasant..... ."
It all catches up with you, all the chitty deeds and selfish behavior always comes back to nip you when you least expect it. I guess I feel that I'm doing my part on the road to make it a little bit safer out there for the average Joe on the road. That, and after 4 (whoops! FIVE) track days, public roads suck eggs, as do tickets and fines.

While I agree with everyone you said Tom, I can't live like that. It just isn't something I can do and feel 'good' about. Often times it probably would be easier to just say 'fvck it' and be like everyone else on the road.
Edited: so i make sense.

ONE IMPORT IS AS GOOD OR AS BAD AS ANOTHER
This is the mentality out there. Sure there are complete IDIOTS out there Driving fast through Rush hour and Flashing high beams ETC ETC
Yes there was an article in the Metro Section of the Washington Post just recently about a hangout spot in the area. Face it we have distinctions here on the MB but to the public we are only associated with Street racing 2F2F wanna bes.
We know this to me true everytime a police pulls up behind us and tails us for 10 miles just hoping that we forget to turn on our signal before changing lanes. These areticles in the paper leads to ANTI Importer sentiment and there is no distinction. Articels in some of the Tuner magazines have statements saying that "Street Racing if fun cause it is Illegal." YES these are the comments that ALWAYS make the headlines. The Occasional News Headline that reads "Local Teens die in firey crash, Illegal Street racing believed to be the cause." This is where this resentment comes from.
We are divided among ourselves. We have some of us who believe that Street racing is stupid and to go to the track and there are others who hate us for it.
The malicious acts against us are a result of a collection of all of this. Why not Publish ITR Expo or the likes in the local news papers? Why not a public PUSH from those of us that condem street racing and the FAF mentality?
I drove through Deleware onetime on my way to Atlantic City and I don't know anyone there. I don't double park my car. I was parked at the 7 11 and when I came back someone stuck a wad of gum under my hood between the windshield and Hood. I have come back to my car and someone through a large Bucket of Soda on my car. Spit on my car. Totally UNPROVOKED.
Just recently I was Driving my Type R Just bought the car and had not even had it for one day. I was coming around a turn about to enter the highway and a guy in a Buick came out of no where and cut me off. I had to hit the brakes and ended up running into the Jersey wall. This Guy didn't even stop to see if I was okay.
This is going beyond the ocassional act of vandalism. This is Down right Criminal

Most of the places where I shop havebig parking lots and if someone parks Far away from the store why would they need to double park? No one parks down there anyway. I think if you part your car far away off to itself it just draws MORE attention to it and people are vendictive and see this car parked off by itself and KNOW that the owner wants to protect their car and maybe they will throw soda on the car just for the HE11 of it. I park close and pray that no one dings my door since the R had no sidel moldings. But if it happens it happens Besides people are less likely to do stupid crap to your car if it in in a crowded parking lot.

The Karma Ghia was a special vehicle developed by Volkswagon for the Daili Lama. It ran on purity of spirit. However the current incarnation, Lama Tarchin, is more partial to the Lotus.

LOL fred.
So you can't steal the Karma Ghia, since the theif most likely would not be able to get the engine to 'turn over' since their purity of spirit tank is most likely on empty.
Now we just need to figure out how to get an ITR to run of purity of spirit.

Chris - who wonders what the name of the Lotus vehicle might be...

It's not just imports. My friend had her bone stock Camaro keyed less that a week after she got it. Why? I'd say it's a bad combination when you're insecure and don't care about anyone except yourself...
