How in the hell do you separate the tranny from the engine??
I am getting close to swapping in my used engine for my blown one, but I need to swap the tranny's first. I have the used engine and tranny out of the car, and I have disconnected everything and unbolted the 5 bolts that hold the two together, but how in the f--k do you get them apart??
Is there some trick to doing it without breaking out the crow bar? And if it IS the crow bar, where do you put it?
I have to do it again when I pull the blown D15 out of the hatchcrap as well, so any tricks now would be helpful.
Tanks.

i did the seperation while the motor was still in the car, but you can do it ur way too....if you have a engine hoist, keep the motor chained up and then jiggle the tranny up and down and then left and right, then it will start to come apart and then from there you should be able to jiggle and pull it off. Also if you dont see it cracking at all then make sure all the bolts are off
Do not forget to push the clutch in or it will be in gear. If you have already taken off the clutch cable, then pull up on the clutch lever attached to the tranny. If that is not it, double check and make sure ALL bolts are removed from block. There are also 2 dowel pins that go into the the block from the tranny, do not screw those up, you want to keep those in good shape.

5 bolts sounds right, but i just wanted to make sure you got the one (or is it two) bolts that go from the right to left (vs the 3/4 that go from left to right). the right ot left one is on the "back side" of the tranny (near the rear mount).

Not the nicest way to say it, but yes the starter has to be removed. It usually does take a little pry once EVERYTHING is removed.
yeah, sorry, right before that I had an engine sling a blade through the combustor during some test stand procedures. cost us about $3/4 million in damages. Oh well... just surfin' H-T to relax...

the flywheel cover is called the bell housing i belive.. and yeah, it has to come off.. i did it on the ground once, and found that out the hard way. lets just say, i never put them back on for that reason.. and yeah.. you'll have to take the starter out.. most of the time, i have a hard time.. i real hard time if the starter is still in it.

Just a drop in the bucket for ya Brandon. We are going to take that from your next 2 checks right.

riiiiiiight. maybe at my next job as a pie-taster bikini inspector special agent **** star....
FYI, the "bellhousing" is about 1/2 of the transmission case, the "flywheel cover" (aka dustcover) is a piece of 18 ga sheetmetal shaped like a woodruff key that is ~10" x 4" with two bolt holes- one for a 12mm and one for a 10mm.
