Car Door is Locked Shut
I have a '93 Accord 10yr ed.
I got into the driver side, tried to get out and the door wouldn't open. The power locks work fine. However, I cannot open the door. I want to take the panel off to look at the locking mechanism, but to take the panel off I have to open the door.
Is there any way around this apparent Catch 22?
Thanks

Thanks alot. I pulled off as much of the panel as I could. I think I will have to take the seat out, however, to get to the locking mech.
Thanks again

Does the door open from the outside? Accords from 1990-1993 have a history of the door latch itself going bad ... making it impossible to get in or out of the car.
If it is only inside ... then you probably have a rod that has fallen off or a clip that has broken. If you can indeed get the door open ... you should be able to figure the problem out by removing the door panel and following the door lock rods to see where one is no longer hooked up or working.

No, the door will not open from either outside or inside. It is simply not opening. I pulled back the door panel somewhat, but I couldn't pull the whole thing off. As a result, I cannot get my hand to the locking mech., but I can see it. The peculiar thing is that when I use either the inside or outside handle, I see a definite movement by the locking mech. Also, everything seems to be connected from what I can see. It almost seems like nothing is wrong, but that is obviously not true.
I guess, it is the first of the conditions you listed. Is there anything I can do, or would I have to take it to the dealer?
Would Chiltons, by any chance, have the specs on the locking mech. for 93 Accord?
To Turbo E: I asked a police officer to help me, but he told me that a slimjim could not open the door.
Anyway, thanks again everyone.

It is VERY difficult to try to explain to you how you would have to get it opened. You have to get the seat out first then work the door panel off and then you actually have to drill the latch assy in a certain spot to get it to release. You may want to contact a dealer near you as I am sure they have run across this problem the same way we have at the dealership I work at.
A slim jim will NOT work in this situation. There is no way to really get it open short of what I explained in the statement above.
