You mean throttle POSITION sensor. It tells the ECU where and how much the throttle blade moves. Without it, the ECU does not know where the throttle is. Is equals very poor throttle response (duh) and a ranging idle. The car will run but with the things that I told you about.

how do you know if it's bad? can you take if off and test it with some sort of volt meter to ensure that it's correctly working? how much does a new one normally cost?

ALL honda/acura TPS sensors are inter-change able right

You leave it on the car and start the car. grab a voltmeter and test the Red/blue wire. It should be .45 volts at idle and 4.5 volts at WOT. If not try adjusting it, if that does not work then you will have to replace it.

The engine will run like **** if a T.p sensor is unplugged, defective, or broken.

The T.P sensor is NOT available from the Honda dealer unless you buy a complete throttle body, which is a total rip-off.

What's the cheap and easy solution?

Well at first clance the T.P sensor looks to be riveted to your TB. Those are actually headless screws that can be removed if you grind a slot in them and unscrew them as you would any normal screw. A punch works too.

Once you unscrew the old T.P sensor, remove another one from any late model Honda TB and just find normal screws that fit in the threads and screw the "new" one in.

Broken T.P sensors are VERY common on JDM engines and the T.P can be easily broken when lowering the engine into the car that you're swapping into.

Hope that helps!
