The two were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. Details of the incident were held until the families were notified.
“This is a tragic day for the world of rallying and motorsports in general,” said Steve Johnson, SCCA President and CEO, who was in attendance at the event. “Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman were among the best crews in the world, but they were also great competitors as well. Our prayers go out to their families, Subaru Rally Team USA and all of their friends and supporters.” </TD></TR></TABLE>

Man its always very personal when a racer dies, especially a well known and liked guy like Mark Lovell. A grim reminder of the price some pay to do what they love. Guess I'm gonna have to find a way to fit Mark's picture in there along with Daijiro's on my avatar

It has been a bad year for Rallying in the USA. First the 2 spectator deaths now this.

I had a huge scare this morning when I heard, having lots of friends running that event. It's bad enough when any fatality occurs but...man.

With the cages those things get, it's hard to imagine anybody dieing unless they weren't wearing proper neck safty equipment.

you've got to remember; you can't beat the laws of physics. i don't care how well built your car is; if you hit an immoveable object and suddenly come to a stop, you will decelerate drastically. the human body can only withstand so many G's; organs burst, the brain hemmorages, etc.
its a dangerous sport and it will happen. you must accept it.
i do.
it is sad; this is true. but it happens.

Yeah they did and we all accept this as a possible fate in this sport of driving on the edge of the envelop. The greatest tribute to these and other drivers killed in action is improving the courses, cars and safty equipment that may have contributed to the loss of life.
Sadly their deaths will serve a purpose, to keep others alive............
