Default noobie question on b17 vs b18

heres a dumb question that you guys probaly have answered a million times.. but this has troubled me for some time.. why is it that for the G2 teg's.. the b17 pushes out 160hp or 170hp and the b18 pushes 130-140hp?

also, i have a integra b18a1 engine in my G2 LS and from 90-91 it has 130hp and from 92-93, it has like 160-170hp?

that only g2 that has 160hp (i think it is) is the gsr (vtec b17 motor). there has never been an ls that is above 140 hp.

Oh close riceball, but no cigar.

90-91 B18A is non-VTEC and OBD0=130 HP
No GS-R's in 90-91
B17A1 is VTEC and OBD1, only came in 92-93 GS-R's=160 HP
B18A non-VTEC But is OBD1, 140 HP in 92-93 RS, LS, GS, SE
B18B non-VTEC But is OBD1, also 140 HP in 94-95, RS, LS, GS, SE
B18B non-VTEC But is OBD2 145 HP in 96-01, RS,LS, GS, SE
On the others above riceball is correct. 3G-GS-R and ITR&2G GS-R
The B17 makes more HP than the B18A/B because it has OBD1 software
which is better than OBD0 And it has VTEC , which means it's redline is like 2K higher, therefore according to that HP/torque equation the higher the redline the more "specific output", ie HP.
But you should also note the LS B18A/B makes MORE OVERALL torque and at a much less extreme RPM somewhere in the neighberhood of 5.5K much lower in the engines "powerband".
The LS B18A/B's NEVER made more than 140-145 HP in any year they
were produced regardless of OBD0 or 1 or 2.
There are many variables to HP output and HP is really just a mathmatical formula arrived at by multiplying or dividing, I forget which,
by the torque output. HP output is a function of many variables being juggled. Such as cams, ECU software, intake and exhaust manifold
design, head design, compression ratio, combustion chamber shape, engine redline, which is merely the point where the valvetrain becomes unstable, etc, etc, etc........ ALL these variables can be played with to arrive
at any "specific output" an automaker wants.
HTH.

I don't have ALL my honda info in front of me, so don't flame me if I miss a few details. But, I believe it's somewhere between 122 ft/lbs and
and maybe 130 ft/lbs. At somewhere around 5.2k or 5.5k rpm's I know honda kept inching up the specs year after year,
a ft/lb. or 2 of torgue here, a couple of hundred RPM there, AND
and like 142- 145?? HP out the tailpipe. Does that sound correct ??? HaHa
HTH
EDIT You all can search HT and the web for these specs you know
they are EVERYEHERE.
