Default bosal and pacesetter catbacks for crx

Anyone have comments about either of these catback systems? I've been searching on google forever trying to find pictures and reviews of crx catback systems only to find sites selling products with no reviews or pictures.

I like the greddy mx, but it'd be hard to find under $450. The bosal and pacesetter seem to be the cheapest things I can find out there, but I don't know what they look like, and/or if it's loud and obnoxious.

I have a stock B20B with a universal muffler and 2.5" piping with cat, and it's disgustingly loud and raspy. I just want something quiet, but I dont want to slap a stock exhaust on it since it's a beefier motor and needs a little better breathing than that.

Any pictures and comments about catback systems would really help me decide what to get. Thanks.

The greddy you can probably find used for 250 or under, ive seen a bunch go for around 250 in good condition. As for Pacesetter, i remember reading a post on H-T saying their stuff for our cars is crap. Something about it rusting fast and not giving any HP anyways.

Stay away from pacesetter and save your money for something else. They rust really fast and sound like crap. If your looking for a cheap catback, I would suggest either going to a muffler shop and having them make custom piping and then just buy a magnaflow muffler and have them put it on.

STAY AWAY FROM PACESETTER!!!! rust=bad. If you are looking for a good price on a stainless exhaust you might want to take a look at OBX or Thermal Research maybe

OBX is in the same class as APC and Matrix, Thermal is good tho

I have OBX exhaust, I bought a complete system header, high-flow and the rest of the system and I absolutely love it. It is very well made with t-304 stainless steel and the welds are top notch. I like the sound too (deep, Not like a kazoo). I would never in a million years put OBX products in the same class as APC. There are a lot of people who hate OBX because it is not brand name and does not cost top dollar so they assume it is crap without ever having used it. As far as pacesetter, They have great designs and good horsepower gains for cheap, But they do not make their stuff out of good materials and it does rust extremely fast. I am not familiar with the quality of Bosal so I will not comment. Check out these links:

Hope this helps!

For you the pacesetter would be too small, it is only 2". What I would do is buy a dynomax or magnaflow 2 1/4 " in and out muffler, and have a shop make the 2 1/4 piping. Every time a topic like this comes up, everyone suggests this is the best way to do a catback system, with not spending a large amount of money.

I actually have the PaceSetter Monza exhaust on my Si right now. I've noticed very slight gains, maybe a little faster pickup. It sounds ok but I think in the near future I'm gunna remove it for a N1. The pacesetter is basically a stock muffler with a tip though, nothing special. If I were you I'd skip the Pacesetter experience and go straight for the Greddy if that's what your also considering. Don't spend $200 on a pacesetter, then find out you don't really like it that much and need to spend another $250-450.. Spend the $250-450 in the first place you'll feel much better. Or if you want, you can give me $50+shipping (since I'm in Maine and no one lives near me :-( ) and I'll send you my pacesetter. That way you get a cheap exhaust (even though it's about 3 months used) and you can experience the pacesetter. LMK

Thats what the tip looks like. I think it's like a 3..3.5" tip but the outlet is actually 2.5" The pacesetter that is.

I have the bosal cat back on my car (crx) and it sounds great.
It is a very good quality exhaust for the money.

Anybody know what size the piping is on the bosal, I forgot?

when i got my car the exhaust was shot had to go but had no cash as usual, went with the matrix exhaust cause it was cheaper obviously and i cant say anything bad about it. ive had it forever and its still as new as the day i got it all shiny no rust sounds good too, nice and deep. id agree that obx and matrix could be in the same class, but apc.. no way man not in the least. just my opinion

Pacesetter is junk, it looks decent when you first get it but after a little bit of weather, it will rust and you will regret buying it. Stay away from pacesetter.

I had the Pacesetter exhaust on my CRX for about a month. I bought the catback system brand new for $150 (first red flag). It sounded SOOO awful and raspy, like a sick cow or something. Needless to say, I don't know about the rust aspect because it wasn't on the car that long. But I definitely say stay away from this exhaust because of the sound.

I had the Bosal Brospeed on my CRX, and enjoyed the sound. I would have probably preferred a Greddy, but I don't regret buying the Bosal due to the cost. Very slight gains, but then again, you probably won't see a monumental gain from any exhaust.

Do you remember the size of the piping on the brospeed?

It's been a while, but I am pretty sure it was 2 1/4 piping with a 3 inch tip.

Have you ever tried to get a resonator for your existing exhaust? They do miracles

DC ASports are the best IMO. They are pricey though. Mine sounded killer at all revs, looked great, and gave me about 5-8 hp. You should invest in one.

yeah I know, it just barely clears the cutout. Just another reason I wanna get it offa there. In a week or so I'll be ordering a new setup. For now, I'm kicking myself if the *** cuz I paid a local garage to install it.

MikeyT,

I picked up a old pacesetter rear section, b/c I had to. The only reason its on my car was b/c it was free, and my rear sway bar wouldn't clear my coffee can muffler anymore.
I think that this muffler might be why I only run a 15.3
My next setup will be a removed cat., magnaflow exhaust, and custom of course.
Take one or two of the 4" diamater aluminized 14" mufflers 2.5 inlet/outlet

I know it would sound good, but I don't know about loudness.
BTW I want it to come out the right side of the car like it used to.

I have had a pace setter exhaust before, now i have an OBX, and i have helped but on many other styles.

pacesetter is the worst, you are better off goign ot a muffler shop,

OBX, is worlds above it, full stainless mandrel bent good welds. and it sounds good too. I do think that greddy makes a great exhasut and it is slightl better than the obx, but not enough for me to spend twice the money on.

i would look into the OBX is you are lookign for a cost effective solution and you dont care about what brand it is.

About the custom jobs, get 2 mufflers? One as a resonator i suppose? I was looking at those magnaflow ones. What's the setup like? Get one of those round ones and put it after the cat, and then put a 1 inlet/ 2 outlet muffler where the stock one used to be? Would that work? And if so, should it be quiet and also not as restrictive as stock?

I guess I'll just have to call a muffler shop for pricing.

Thanks.

Where can you get a good deal on a OBX exhaust? Anybody have pictures/links?
