Default Good beginner bike?

Hey Fellas,

I might be looking into getting a bike in the next year or so. I haven't taken the course yet, so classify me as a beginner. What is a decently quick, forgiving, decent-looking bike that I could get used for ~5K, +/- a few dollars? I don't know all that much about bikes except from my brother who had a couple of VFRs in his day.

you cant get F4i or R6 for +/- 5Gs!!!! The i is brand new and the R6 is only about 2 years old. Those are gonna be 6500+.

Look for a nice used F3 or F2, thoses are some of the best ones to get for a first bike. Any 600 thats older than a 96 or so should be about your price range.

fzr 600, r6, ninja zx6..anything that is a 6, You will want to start here cause the platform is good, the power is decent, and there is always room to upgrade. Get used to a 6 first then move up as you choose.
I have an R1..Very very fast!

Hey now everyone. Don't knock on the guy (who said you could get an R6 or F4i). It's true. I'm sure you could find one for $5k...wrecked.

He gave a low price cause he would get it at cost and with no financing. My girl is getting an R6 for 5500$ so yeah it is possible.

right but way too expensive and for a starter bike? I'm thinking a CBR 600 F3 would be good.

And you would be right. IMO, don't bother with the "Smokin' Joe's" paint scheme. I think people will charge at least a grand more for it, and as far as I know, it's just the paint scheme.

I'm looking for good beginner bike. But I did ride 200 but that was long time ago...but never on the road. But I plan to take courses on riding on the street.
I rather have it for sport touring then anything. But I don't see any Japanese bikes that I like because I like solid colour bikes.
But I don't want a goldwing too much for me plus I don't want to spend that much.
But I plan to spend around 15 grand or so on good touring bike.
So far I like the Aprilia touring bikes and some there low end racing bikes, Ducati touring bikes, Triumph touring bikes and Buell bikes. I was told the Buell was good beginner bike. Like the blast because it's around 4 grand new and low power. I may do that and just trade it for something bigger once I get use to riding on the road and such.

Anyone know the prices on Aprilia touring bikes and Triumphs touring bikes and Ducatis which I'm sure theres will be high just because of there name brand.

TIA

Forget all of the new stuff gp and test a Fazer. They are basically a detuned 600 and have less plastic and sticking out things to replace when you trow them down the road. Even though they havent go the image a decent rider will hold on to most 600's with one. Spen the extra on track days and get your skill level up.

go with a gsxr 600 and for 5K you'll probably have to go with a 96 model. and yes getting an r6 for 5K,.... i dont know about that. I know thats a long shot in AZ, unless its well wrecked!
