Hey..U cant swap engines anymore!! NEW RULE..
Did u guys hear about the new rule where you cant swap engiens because they have a new rule for smog test.. They Dyno test the car to pass the smog test.. SO that means the match the engine # to the car # or somthin like that and if it dont match then they will fail you.. They say 60% of people will fail now..
How can you over pass this problem???? I want to swap my f22b1 to a H22a but now I dont know...

Two choices...
1.) Move out of California
2.) Pay even more $$$ to the guy testing your car. Offer to pay for his kids college tuition.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, because what about people whose engines have died and they needed to be replaced? Even if they replaced it with the standard engine, the numbers would be different. I can't see them failing all those people. Then again I am not a law-maker either.

That's pretty interesting. Where'd you hear this from? Your "friend"?
Go to the California State Government website and show us where this **** is posted. OR post the LA Times / San Jose Mercury News article that substantiates what your saying. OR post the senator's/councilman's/state representative's website docket that shows this as a "proposal". OR goto C.A.R.B's website and point this out.
No rumors please w/o evidence.

from what i know is that you cant get an older engine for your car so if your block code is a f23a4 you have to get the h22a4 or higher

it doesnt have to do with engine model years- just years of engine. you cant put, say, a 94 f22 into a 95 accord. . . . nothing older than the original engine.

That's right. I believe this has been the law for some time.

Off Subject.. you know that for some older cars.. (like 60s and lower)... its not a law to have a seatbelt.. a cop can stop you and cant say ****.. *and most cops dont even know the law exists*
supposedly its pretty easy to have it approved IF/F it's stock. like a stock 95 prelude engine into a 91 accord... with ALL emmisions components attached. Just go to the dmv and ask for one of those ARB inspections. I've read about it on the JTR site. (yes, I've looked into 350 swaps for other vehicles).
For CA the cutoff is 1974 so yea, anything older than that (ancient honda cvcc's etc... hahaha) you dont need smog.

Starting in 2011, the cut-off year for California no-smog needed starts moving. In 2011, <1974 becomes the "no-smog needed"...2012, <1975 becomes no-smog needed, 2013, <1976 etc.
I'm looking forward to 2031.

would you really have your car then?
any how cali laws are fuxored, but there are legal ways of getting your hybrid legaized.
1. yes the engine going into the car must be of same year or newer, same type of vehicle as well. eg if its a passenger vehicle the engine must be from a passenger car.
2. You can take your car to any smog referee to have them check the car and issue you a bar sticker. But you must have all emissions controlled devices intact, and unmodified. And if it is modded you must have carb E.O.'s on them.
thats all i can remember for now
