Does anyone know the rules about a Red Tag bike and a Green tag bike in CA.
I am thinking of buying a dirtbike and I hard someone mention something about a Red Tag and a Green Tag. And only being able to ride one half the year. Anyone have any info on this?
I know a little i just got two dirtbikes the green sticker is you can ride anywere anytime the red sticker is you are limited to when and were you can ride. this is pretty much aplies for OHV areas. I went with a bike that was green sticker (4 stroke) just so I can ride when ever I want.
Do any of you guys ride close to SoCal? I am looking for people to maybe go ride with once I get a bike. I just moved here in April so dont know really anyone..

No, It has nothing to do with that. Duel sport bikes are registered like a street bike with tags because they are street legal. Both red and green stickers are for dirtbikes only.
Certain bikes get a red sticker which only allows you to ride certain times of the year. Green stickers are good for any time of the year. 2002 and older all get green stickers 03 and newer will get red stickers.
right now the Ca. DMV is all screwed up and they cannot enforce the sticker laws at this time. They already gave out red stickers to people who should have green and vise versa. Hollister Hills, where I ride does not enforce this and won't until the DMV is all cleared up.

whats the logic here? why restrict some bikes to certain times of year?

we can ride when i get my bike.
i think that the stickers also has somethin to do with emmissions.
4 strokes release less emissions than 2 strokes so that may be part of it too

Off Highway Vehicle
I live up near Palmdale, there is some great desert riding around here, give me a yell if you want to go.

From what I have seen only newer two stroke bikes are getting red sticker due to emmisions. 4 strokes are still getting green.
Red Sticker= No Riding for certain months of the year (I think something like May - August or Sept.)
Green Sticker = Ride all year long.
Come October when it starts cooling down Glamis season starts. I have a Banshee but a few friends that go with me have bikes. You definatley need to check out Glamis...

Really? Dang that's news to me. Friend of mine just got the new Yami YFZ 450 quad and said he got green. I thought it was only a 2 stroke thing. That sucks.
