About to buy engine!! Which would be stronger?!
Whats up guys, its time to build/get my engine and I have two choices. First off this would be in a semi stripped 92 si and my goal is low 13s on street tires. My first choice is :
A somewhat basic ls/vtec setup:
b16 head slight port/polish
skunk 2 stage 1 cams
b18b with usdm itr pistons.
Or I could buy a:
b18c5 with ctr cams or skunk stage 1s
ctr pistons
Both would have the normal i/h/e also. I cant decide which would be better, my goal is just low 13s on street tires. Please any insight would be great.

No those are the two setups im looking at. They fit in my budget and the h22 would be a little too much. I hear they have alot of traction problems. But anyways not to get off topic anyone else ??

thats pretty close there... those are my 2 decisions too, I think the ls/vtec would be more work, more maintenance, but not to sure... good luck, im gonna go with the b18c amd work from there!! post some pics when you got it up and runnin

Yea man my buddy i did a swap for my friend and total with mount kit and all was 3g's.Motor swap from HMO and mount kit from Newman here on HT labor was free.How much is your budget?

Your LSVTEC setup will be stronger (assembled and tune correctly of course) but *i like* the R motor better..Just Because....
Yeah I think im leaning towards the R motor now because it will be more reliable. But my question is with those mods will it net me low 13s? I really need any info possible as Im going to be making the decision tonight so please anybody hit me up with opinions!

i think youll need bigger cams then Stage 1's...maybe EF-1 M24's, Skunk stg 2's, or Jun3's with CTR pistons and GOOD HEADERS + Exhaust (Hytech full exhuast?) JimFab(.com) Traction Bars, Azenis on light wheels (or slick or drag radial). what kinda car again...?

the choice is really up to you. the type r motor would be easier. and less downtime. ls.vtec is a great motor too. if your interested were having a special on 97 jdm integra type r swaps. $4,995 installed!! call the shop or pm if your interested. later

Damn all that for low 13s!!! Its going to be in a stripped 92 si hatch. Im still weighing the options. I had a stock ls/vtec before this so either setup will feel much different.

I say go for the R motor..The other motor will take a little more work. In the factor of being stronger I think the ls/vtec would be stronger... Hell good luck!
i would go with the r motor, besides the fact its more reliable, when it come time to resell, nothing sell better then a type r powered civic. my crx ran13.1 on 17's with full int. on an itr motor with stock cams!
