Default any performance shops do swaps w/ warranties???

just as it says, i have my car at VSV performance in Carrollton (N.Dallas), and my crx's motor (d16a6) threw a rod cause water got sucked up through my CIA, in really hard rainy rare weather last week, and i happened to be a street away from VSV, so i had my car towed there, and they said i needed a new motor, so they are ordering a ZC dohc for it and they said it should be here next week and only take about a day or two to complete swap.

keep in mind they did'nt start anything yet, since they are waiting on motor, so now i am really debating whether i should have them do it or not, cause they told me it only had a "START UP & RUN" warranty, lol, and when i told my friend that, he said thats crazy and would tell me not to have them do it unless it at least had a 6 month warranty, incase suddenly the motor dies or something.

my main question is this : do most performance oriented shops not have a warranty? just to save their asses? since most people modify their cars that take them there?, ............................cause i don't know if i want this done unless they give me some kind of written warranty, i mean i am spending probably up to $2000 so i am kind of giving this a lot of thought since i am having to borrow this money also, and if there are any problems after this i am screwed, cause i will barely have any money.

i called a non -performance place called japanese all-star engines in Addison(dallas area), and they said they can put in a ZC sohc including t-belt, water pump etc.... with a 6 month warranty for $1500, but i don't really want the sohc one, and plus i would end up paying to tow my car from VSV to this other place, but the 6 month warranty does sound more satisfying.

any body have any experiences with this?, maybe i am worrying too much, i don't know, i might take the chance with VSV, since they said if anything is wrong, just simply take it back and have them fix it, and maybe i don't need the written warranty, since its not like its a honda dealer or anything.

I've worked at and been to a lot of performance shops and I have never seen a warranty. I highly doubt that you will find a warranty anywhere you go.

you will be lucky to get a warentee, that's not typical at all. If I were you I'd go w/ teh SOHC. If it is indeed a SOHC ZC then it will be VTEC w/ aprox 130hp at the flywheel which is the same as teh DOHC design anyhow. So performance should be roughly the same. Just my.02

On the swaps we do, we guarantee our work(wiring, mounting) but not the internal engine/trans. Reason being no matter what someone says, they beat there VTEC swaps to death. Its not our fault that you beat the engine and broke it.

Yea most shops will guarontee their installation, but nothing with the motor. And only sometimes is it that you'll get a "Start up warrenty" if you can get one of those, you should get it because the motors are over 10 years old and you can't really guarontee that the one that your getting isn't fucked allready. but good luck with it!

thanks people, and i had a feeling that warranties were pretty rare, since they are performance oriented shops, and i understand how they need to cover their ***, or else they would be paying for everybodys stuff.

but, since they did say they at least have the start up & run warranty, i at least need that in writing (printed out)

also i would be willing to pay extra just to have them put any new seals, gaskets, do compression or leak down test, etc... just to make sure the engine is good condition.

i was'nt really for doing swaps before, i really was one of those people that loved the d16a6, but unfortunately due to the long intake i chose (not even having a fender liner, lol) it sucked waater and ruined my trusty d16, and now i am forced into this situation of swapping, so i am just needing to get this over with.

i slowly fixed my car's body back to normal over about 1-1/2 yrs after a wreck i had, and 2 months ago i got a tax return and i used the money to get a 900 dollar paint job at maaco, and it turned out good, then i did ignition timing, idle, valve adjustment, etc...,
my car was finally to the point i was happy with it, but now out of all things that could happen, it rained unusually hard here in dallas, and i happened to be in the lane that was lining the curbs with puddles, and only going through it about 30mph, it sucked into the exposed intake, and it had an easier time since i did'nt have the splash guard,............. but oh well, at least i was able to get a loan to get this done, so i am glad about that.

funny thing is, just last week i saw a piece of paper in my crx manual i wrote a little list of things to do, and i wrote in bold letters "PUT SPLASH GUARD AND FENDER LINER, SO YOU WONT SUCK WATER IN INTAKE!", but that shows how much a procrastinator i am.
