Default AEM intake or Comptech Ice box

I hear very good things about AEM, like they are the best cai out there, but then again i heard that the comptech icebox performs better than the AEM intake and does not hydrolock. Can anyone shed some light on this?

ah..the ol' "comptech vs aem cai " question. search bro, it has been discussed about 120938120398123089123 times before.

Go comptech if you have the cash, dont like drawing attention, closest to stock sounding intake that performs.

What kinda car and motor do you have?

Save some money and just get a K&N and drop it in the stock airbox.

ok i've done some research, and what i have come up with is this.

AEM CAI is better for the streets, cuz the ice box will just be kinda useless after the ice melts. The icebox is best for the track and i guess thats it. so there go. end to all this which is better.

This is if you are not worried about hydro-lock, want more power on teh streets and not have to keep putting ice in the box.

roflmao..you're joking, right? ahaahhaahahaha

edit: just to clarify, the icebox is just a name. nothing more nothing less. You DONT put ice in it. The comptech icebox is great because its draws air from the passenger bumper, like stock itr intakes do, and has a filter in the icebox. its basically a shortram with a duct drawing in cold air from below in a effective way. This way you kind of get the best of both worlds (cai and shortram). The comptech icebox has a hole in the box itself so if water was sucked in, it'd drain. With AEM you can add a bypass valve to prevent hydrolocking your engine.

It's not all about peak HP. The Dyno you posted shows that the Comptech unit produces the most HP mid/high range, while others just produce HP in the higher ranges of the RPM band.

Hell the Comptech Still produce more HP than the AEM, regardless.

Better get the AEM, better in the long run like you said once the ice melts.

Comptech 100% all the way... good for the money.

hell yeah, the comptech walks all over the rest of those intakes on that chart besides peak which isnt that important. I REALLY wanna see what a mugen will do in a comparison like that, its basically a larger, probably better designed icebox

Have used AEM in the past, also assorted short rams (filter on a stick) with tubing from the grill to the filter. Recently switched over to the Comp icebox and I love it, excellent midrange and it's nice and quiet.

i've used the AEM CAI nearly 2 years. just a few weeks ago i changed over to the comptech intake and icebox. the throttle response is definitely improved over the CAI, the power feels a little stronger all the way to redline. Now, VTEC isn't quite as loud as it used to be.

I have tried the AEM cai, fake j's intake, and now on to the Comptech box. I will be sticking with the comptech box because I have their header and exhaust already and I couldn't be happier. My friend's civic has DC sports parts on it, and they're ok, but you guys were right when you told me "If you have the money, go Comptech!" These guys do their research and testing and deffinetely come up with products worth bragging about. Thanks guys!
