theory on how i destroyed my engine - you guys wanna turn it into fact???
Ok as some of you may know, my engine is completely destroyed. I finally took the bloody thing apart and the heat is scarred by reminants of 3 valves that dropped into the cylinder. As for the piston in #3 well thats a different story.
Anyway, took the head off and low and behold a rocker arm is loose and sure enough out pops the retainer and valve spring but no valve.
So what I'm basically asking, how can you physically drop a valve into the cylinder???? The little clips at the end of the valve appear to be still in place so what the valve snapped????
I find this bloody strange considering its spoon stuff but hey...
Any imput would be great. As for my rebuild path, I think a b16 head then new cylinders.. bore looks ok but will re-bore to 81.5mm to be safe.
Will post pics soon!!!

how did you manage this? over revving or mis shift or something?
sorry bout the situation. Id like to see some pics for sure.

would like to retire but I havent even hit my glory days yet.. i'm not even 21 and I still expect there is a lot more heart ache to follow
i guess as someone said on this board before...
its not how you fall, but how you pick yourself back up!!!

that is true my friend. i lost my motor when i first built it. but i picked myself back up and rebuilt it from the ground up again. its running, and i feel good everytime i drive it, even tho it doesnt run worth a damn, still feels good

How long after an over-rev would it be until the valve broke? Excuse my ignorance (I work with computers not cars) but I would have thought it would happen immediately?

ITs hard to say how long, usually if you rev past redline, your valves will have a chance of bending almost immediately, any longer and the valves will break from impact (piston slap).

Here are the photos of Jansen's engine: http://redlineau.com/gallery/albun63
Might help to give you a better picture of what happened.
