OK, I need a clutch. Looking for opinions.
I know, been discussed 1000 times, but I want current feedback.
Id like to know what clutch setups you guys are using or recommend. It was recommended to me recently to run a stock disk with a heavy duty pressure plate. If anyone is running that sort of combo, speak up and let me know how you like it so far. I currently have a stage 3 Hyperclutch and it blows. I want something streetable, with a very stock feel, able to support around 200whp. I drive the car hard so its gotta be reliable. Right now, Im thinking ACT HD pressure plate with their street disk or an OEM disk, but looking for opinions. Gracias.

PS. dont tell me to search

I have an ACT HD pp + Organic street disc.
It's got at least 60,000 miles on it.
It has never given me any hint of trouble. The pedal feel is exactly what I think it should have been like to begin with; firm but not noticably stiff or difficult to use. It feels similar to a stock BMW clutch. I actually find it easier to drive due to better pedal feel. While the stock clutch didn't feel like it was hooked up to anything, the ACT communicates a little.
All in all, I'd have to say I'm very pleased with the setup.

I dunno, man. I really hate the stock clutch. I think I'd probably replace the clutch and flywheel on any car I buy, even if I left everything else stock.
But that's just me.
But that's just me.
Im making more than 200whp. i drive my car harder than anyone i know, I use a CM Stage 4 clutch. stock pedal feel, grabs like a champ and i've never had a problem with it.

yo fool, I dunno about you, but my ITR didnt come with over 200whp stock
Its been suggested to try the OEM clutch again, but I think I just drive the car too hard for that and it wont last. Its not like I do 10K rpm clutch drops, but I drive it damn hard.
MK Ultra, do you have any chatter with that clutch disk? The disk I have now is half ceramic, half metalic and is supposed to be chatter free. But its definitely got some issues. Could be install error I suppose, but I think the PP is bad and it seems to make quite a bit of noise when it engages. Ill know better once I get the clutch out and can look at it. Curious how the organic disk feels.
I dont daily drive the car, but I dont want to have to fight it when I do drive it. For me, as well as many of you Im sure, clutch and pedal feel in general is a huge part of driving the (any) car. Any little annoyances like clicking clutch or inconsistent engagement just takes away from driving the car and at times I dont even want to drive it because its too annoying and a lot of work (not to mention the other issues Im still working out). Thanks for the feedback so far, ACT is looking like a pretty good option right now.

Not really.
I occasionally get some very light chatter, but it's my fault when it happens (i.e. if I don't give it enough gas because I'm being lazy or distracted).

I am runing ACT extreme plate with street disc I love it I have used a few diffrent combo's on my cars and I think by far this it the best one even if you are not making Hi HP. fourth gear rubber all day. My wife like's it the best as well.
What is the difference between sprung and unsprung disks(besides the springs duh)? A little birdie told me that unsprung is better. Whats the purpose of the springs?
Not Exedy Organic.
Stock should take a beating and hold up ok and Len at Baranco can get you a deal.
I have an ACT HDSS setup and Fidanza flywheel as well and it has help up well.

How long does the OEM clutch last? I dont drive my car too hard. I have fun but nothing really bad, and I have only been to the track once. 36k+ miles.
I am just wondering when I should be expecting it to crap out on me.

OEM clutch should last atleast 40K with normal driving. There are people that have gone much longer than that though so it depends on your driving style.

When I did research for my clutch, I found out that unsprung will bite harder, but it also puts a lot more stress on the tranny. What I found is that it's a bad idea to go unsprung unless it's an all out race car. Just my .02
