Drove my brothers S2000 over 140 MILES yesterday!
It was a half day affair all by myself. Call me sick (or really lucky) but I drove it around town for about 4 hours straight yesterday. The odometer was at 497 miles when I took it out at around 4:30 and then when I brought it back later that evening it had about 640 miles. I told myself that I would not take the rpm up near redline until 600 miles. Well at 599 miles I was driving down the strip and a C3 Vett pulls up next to me. He was ready to race me but of course I did not to be loyal to my personal agreement. Anyway, I did end up taking it up near 9,000 rpm a few times. The larger cam lobes engage at 6,000 rpm (indicated) but the car does not really pull strong until about 7,000 rpm.
Before I dropped off the car I raced Dave's 98 Type R with the S2k a couple times. We had a rolling drag from about 40 mph to about 70 mph. We both started in second gear. The race was surpassingly somewhat close. Yes, the S2k pulled a bit but only about 1 car length. Part of the reason is because the motor is not fully broken in and partially because I was not optimizing the short gears of the S2K. The top end power is really impressive. If I gave the S2K a hard sift into third it would have been a different story. Between 8 and 9 K the S2000 pulls pretty well on the R.
Dave and I were about 2 seconds away from getting a fat ticket while we were doing our little drag experiment. Right after our second race, we came over a hill (going 70+ in a 45 zone) and I notice the V1 going off full blast. Let's just say it was too close but we either were not clocked at a high rate of speed or we snuck into Dave's subdivision before the cop was able to pull U turn. Next time we do this it will be during the daylight.

In my experience (S2000 w/ 8k miles), S2000 pulls A LOT harder than ITR. For one, it's RWD... you feel the seats being pressed at WOT. Also, w/ larger contact patch it seems to be more firmly planted at turns. Shifter is a lot more precise than ITR and all-in-all it's justifiable to spend $8,000 for S2000.
hehe...read my thread, it's called "got a ticket, please help!"
peter, good luck trying. Josh didnt your bro have some weird written agreement with the dealer a long time ago relating to the test drive? I remember seeing something like that on your site.

I didn't think that 200cc displacement difference would amount to a whole hell of a lot.....I think that your observations ring true. That and the huge difference in price for performance parts for the S2K makes me glad I bought a Type R when I did.

yep. rode in a st00k around an autox course this weekend and i was impressed at the pull relative to the Rs. mine is still in break-in so i haven't opened it up yet...but i'm psyched. the stook handles much differently than the R and i'm still getting used to that. as reported, it seems to be less forgiving than the R. very fun car overall (and major chick magnet!) but i do miss my yellow R...the stook is a little less raw feeling (so far).

Also, a quick power-to-weight ratio reveals, ITR with 13.533 and S2000 with 11.704. If you ask me they are in a completely different ballpark in stock trim.
