Default type r lost motion assembly

I've searched this topic and haven't found what I've been looking for. I have a b16 head and what to upgrade my cams but I heard that one needs the type r LMA to prevent cams from breaking. So if anyone is selling or knows of a good site that I can find a well priced type r LMA, I'd appreciate it. thanx

You definately need them if your running big big cams..

As far as I know, newer b16 and gsr heads already come with them. they are the same as ITR LMA's, the only ones that are not good enough for the big cams are from older heads, I think from 96+ gsr heads have them ready to go..

But you only need them for really big cams.. I know for a fact you can run Jun III's AND Toda C's w/ a first gen b16 head with no problems. but anything bigger then those, definately upgrade.

The GSR and B16 heads have their own Lost motion ***. The type R's have different ones, diff part numbers

Yup, I called acura myself and had them run the part numbers. GSR's are the same as B16 (P30 part number) and ITR has their own (P73). If you don't believe us call for yourself. Now whether they are needed or not I am unsure. Hope that helps.

I am sending Rocket a GSR and a Type-R lost motion assembly for testing. Hopefully he will post results next week. Compressing them by hand, the Type-R LMA "seems" stiffer, but we will see.

let us know what the results are. The stiffness is the only reason I figure that they have different part numbers.

I'll have pics and do some measurements with calipers and put those things on a spring tester.

Stay tuned.

Thanks B19coupe for the help.

How much more clearer can I be. We have done plenty of JUN III/TODA C type set-up's with stock B16 or GSR LMA's with no problems what so ever with proper valvetrain. So untill I see a reason fit....

I'm still confused as to how people would think you would need to swap in a ITR lost motion, I mean both motors rev just as high as eachother, if you swap in springs/valves/retainers/cams.... whats the problem as long as you replace or upgrade what you need to upgrade....

Well the whole theory behind it is because ITR's have more aggressive cams. Hence why their valvetrain is upgraded over a B16 or GSR motor as well, but was I said before.....

There is a post by Earl about LMA's binding and causing cam breakage Here
That is one thread I know of that goes into depth about the LMA issue.

I would try ebay. Once and a while there are some on there for sale, I got mine for $135. Or you could go to acura but they wanted over $200 and I have a hook up.
