Default Civic type r headlight question..

Hello all, im postin this for a buddy of mine with a 2000 civic who just purchased a set of ek9 ctr head lights.

he noticed that the jdm headlights have an extra hole in the headlight for a plug for another bulb. the hole is located on the bottom of the headlights. the question is where would he buy this plug, or will the plugs off of the prelude(98) work? Any ideas or help will be apreciated.

the newest prelude socket and bulb are a direct plugin!!!!!! call your local honda dealer. it shouldn't be more than 20 bucks for all of it.

That extra hole is for the city light. Post some pics of what his headlights look like when they're installed.

Which bulb off the lude fits? (for future reference)

i thought posting this up would be handy sooner or later...
you will be needing 2 of these:

these are just the sockets w/o bulbs... you will also be needing a wiring kit if your buddy plans on running the city lights.
i just bought the sockets and bulbs and called it a day.

does anyone know how to correctly wire the city lights. where they go on with the parking lights but shut off when you turn the headlights on?

i thought they stayed on all the time, because our parking light= their city light.

its just that headlights are so bright, when you turn them on, it drowns out the city light.

our parking light stays on when we turn our headlights on...

not sure. if you just tap into the power for the turn/parking lights, and the ground, you 'd be screwed. your city light would blink in sequence with you parking lights. at least mine do.....

3 wires go to the turn signal. ground, parking light power, and blinker. right?

im not sure about that one...but maybe if you just wire the parking light+ tap into a ground to the city light. your city light should turn on instead of the parking light, and your turn signals should still work.

also, the plugs and bulbs from the license plate lights on the rear of the car will work. they are the same size and everything. all you have to do is wire the two wires into the parking light and ground as mentioned above. i had the same setup with blue bulbd for the city lights and hyper whites for the turn signals (legal, i checked with a state trooper). unfortunately i dont have pics cause i wrecked my car and destroyed the drivers side headlight in the process. fortunately i dont have to spend and arm and a leg on another set of true jdm headlights. i cant remember the site but there is a palce that sells knockoffs that look identical for $120 a set.

My boy wired his up, and they stay on when the headlights are on. Are they really suppose to shut off when you turn on your low beams?

yes they stay on. but if you really want them to turn off you can go to a parts store and buy a relay, tap into your headlights and wire up the relay so that when power goes to the headlights it shuts off the city lights. sounds like a pain in the *** but if you must thats how you would do it. no need though the city lights are so dim they wont be able to be seen in the first place. city lights are very dim and only used to fill the headlight as our parking lights do, they dont project any light like headlight beams do.

Yes, instead of splicing into the parking light wire, you can just completely disconnect it and connect it to the city light if you want the parking lights to turn off (like on the Japanese models). Otherwise just splicing it will make both the city light and parking light turn on in unison.

pull the lead on your turn signal that has constant power, and wire it w/ that, then your corner is just a blinker, and your city lights are your park lights...dig?

mine are wired to my parking lights too, to those who have wired with the turn signals.

but i was asking because the oem jdm was is to have them turn off when the headlights are turned on at least this is what i have been told by a few well know jdm sellers. can anyone verify this? maybe someone with a real jdm eg

mostly anyway, you have to cut power to the socket, not just tap into it...

sorry, I'm lit, and nit-picking

I just did this on my fiance's car and the way I wired them is that when you have your ingintion on the lights are on and then you still have your parking lights and headlights seperate. I know this is not the way they are wired in JDM land but that is just the way she wanted them. They still look cool, especially when they are the only lights on.

why have ingintion on for lights to be on?
you dont need keys for lights
the city light is on when the first click is turned, and still on when you turn on your headlights.
when i drive through lit up area, i just leave my city light on, which is the running light (first click).
i got automatic headlights, so when i roll in a tunnel in the day time, headlights turn on like a Ferrari heh
