At the local street races a few nights ago there was a guy with a earlier model integra. He was saying something like he was an LS with a Vtec head or something like that. Anyway to my embarrassment he beat me by about 2 carlengths. This was my first time down at the big street races so I was really nervous and I wasn't planning on racing. He lined up next to me as we were about to leave. I don't remember how I launced because the starter just dropped his hands after raising them. We do it different where I live so it caught me off guard. I then preceded to miss third gear and of course by then it was all over. He jumped me off the line by a good ways, but I think I stopped his pull in second gear. I then missed third so I don't know if I could have come back on him. No excuses to my crap driving I just have to learn to calm down. Guess I have got use to the smoking the local rednecks. Anyway what kind of power is a car like this putting out. I plan to race him again some day. We were going to race again that night but I had to leave. It was like 1am and I live 70miles away. It seemed like he was putting out a good deal of torque because I heard him bark third on one of his other races.
To answer your question about the LS/VTEC. From what I understand thats the combination of the bottom end
of the Integra LS engine & the top(valvetrain) of the GSR engine,(vtec). If i am correct this an inexpensive
approach that some people take to get more power out of their LS engines insted of buying the entire GSR
motor. I am sure theres more detail than that, may be someone else can add to this or correct me if i am wrong.

i think BLITZ is right...
i heard that it is very popular in Japan
as long as the engine is in the same series (like our B series), head and block are interchangable
once i heard a guy in japan match a larger displacement (3.0L or something similar) engine block from a Honda van (not available in North America) with his Type R engine head and have a significant improve in power and torque

however, for some reason it just doesnt work quite right at high rpms. It's something technical that I don't quite remember, but a guy on H-T has a link in ihs sign to a page that explains the whole thing. An LS/VTEC conversion is not equal to an ITR or even a GS-R.
basically if done correctly, you can get ls torque and dohc vtec top end. 200hps and 130ft/lb tq to the wheels is doable if done correctly. the trend now is the b20/vtec which is from the crv and using either a b16 head, gsr, or itr head. of course if done incorrectly, you could have a serious headache

A ls/vtec is an ls block with a b series vtec head. You have to redrill dowel pin holes and add knock sensors etc. They can achieve huge horsepower with oem parts. Most people use higher compression pistons with these motors. The valve relief on the stock ls piston is not enough for a vtec head and cam.
I've seen some sloppy LS/VTEC's that ran like sh*t. But done properly they can be real screamers. The LS low-end torque combined with the VTEC heads high-rev ability can make for a serious street engine. The basic stuff you need for an LS/VTEC are a doner LS motor, Vtec head (B16/ITR/GSR), vtec head gasket, oil pressure line, vtec ECU, and, knock sensor. And adding close ratio vtec tranny and some B16 pistons will also make a dramatic improvement in performance.
http://www.crvtec.com check that site out...there's more...do a search
most of the time when people do lsvtec's engines they upgrade the pistons...either ctr or itr...most of the time...with a gsr head on a ls bottom end will make the compression higher also...if using a b16 or type r head will reduce the compression...if the lsvtec is built with itr pistons it usally makes around 170 with a b16 head...if its stock ls bottom end with a b16 head usally makes 150-160... It is better than a GSR i believe...makes better power...not equivelent to an itr unless it has pistons and cams...lots of my friends have this setup with pistons and also stock..works really well...even better with a B20 bottom end

LSVTEC is nice, but B20 short block with a VTEC head is the bombdiggy (CRVTEC). Frankenstien surgery is an artform that not any klutz can perform though. A properly built CRVTEC (cams, headwork, hi-comp, etc.) can eat any NA Honda on the street (except a built NSX), and even claim a bunch of FI victims.
<evil rant>Mine gets it's surgery next year. Muahahahahahahahaha ...</evil rant>
