to all past turbo owners
if you had to give one piece of advice on a turbo set-up, anything you could of done differently or learned at the cost of money, what advice would you give? i'm wanting to do a custom, piece-by-piece turbo kit.
I'd say to do it right the FIRST time. Don't do a half-*** install with cheap connectors or use electrical tape to cover connections (heat shrink pls). Spend that extra money to see the setup doesn't leak. Plan ahead on paper...
hmmm i guess thats more than 1 eh? heh

dont cheap out and expect something ghetto to work perfectly because nine of ten time, it will fail on you.
Expect alot of crap and sh-t your car before turbo will not give you.

Don't waist your money on a AFC. It may sound like a good idea.....its not. Get a Hondata, no imitations, no off-brands, no Sam's Choice. Get injectors that are at least 2X the size you think you need them. I thought I needed 440's, when I really need 880's.
880's are a little huge unless you are making over 500 whp...
My best advice is:
Look at EVERY SINGLE AFTERMARKET PEICE. Examine it, study it. Determine "how can this peice fail, and how can i change it so that it will never fail"
The turbo drain, the turbo feed, the fuel rail/pump setup.. Every little detail counts. T-bolt clamps so pipes dont blow off, the expensive turbo hose so that you dont blow out connectors, beads on the piping so they can not blow off. Hondata/uberchip/AEM tuning setup with a wideband monitor. Dont go with over 10:1 compression ratio.
Use a V-band clamp, or a 4 bolt style turbine discharge. Use an external wastegate.
Spend your money on the good stuff now, that way you wont have to spend your money on the crap first, then upgrade it peice by peice.
Start out with the best, and save money in the end.
Go with a precision turbocharger.
Get injectors that are cleaned/blueprinted. Always double check your work, check for leaks, and tighten things to their proper torque spec, and use high quality sealant on gaskets where needed. Dont try and get insane power out of pump gas. Search the forum, and use parts that other people have success with.
Good Luck

aint that the truth. it almost seems like second nature to pop my hood after i get home or before i leave.
someone mentioned not going with the hack.............he is right.
alot of ppl have had success but after dealing with it for 2 months i am ready to move on to something better. i see hondata in my future.
if i could do it all over agian, i would have never considered the hack. that was my only fualt. i made sure everything else was top notch.
EDIT: i seem to post the same time as you lazerus............must be a utah thing

Exactly, i would've gotten the aem ems for my fuel setup from the beginning if i had to do it all over again.
