Pics from Carguys school at VIR this weekend
Some assorted pics from the Carguys event this weekend at VIR. This was my first time to VIR and let me say that it is a gorgeous track. The land, roads, and facilities at VIR are truly impeccable. I wanted to be able to take more pics of the racing, but due to my worker duties and the weather conditions, I didn't have the chance. Enjoy!

Overall, it was a great event. Thanks go out to Jack for hooking us up with the accomodations in Danville and for letting me run as the pace car in the Sunday touring lap
We had pretty good conditions on Friday, while Saturday and Sunday were pretty wet. Look for more pics to be posted from Robert in the near future. I vote for VIR concerning the next Expo site

Thanks for the pics VADER...
Grass damage.. hrmm. I think that VIR is only worried about pavement/arm-co damage. They have an excellent "grounds crew" that goes out after each day to repair any areas that need attention.

She was a great passenger. I wish we'd had dryer track, cause she didn't get the full effect, but we had fun anyway. I'm always happy to corrupt... errr introduce... someone to the track.
Well.. it was definitely a blast.. despite the rain that continued all day Saturday and Sunday. Friday offered one dry session, and it was a lot of fun.. Saturday and Sunday offered plenty of learning experiences on the wet track. I'll be posting some video clips soon!
You ready Diane?

Yesh, it was a great weekend, once I got dry
Very busy weekend for the corner workers, too. Thanks to Diane for letting me take the Miata out on touring laps - you were right, that car is a hoot!
I have about 40 pics from the weekend, plus one incriminating MPEG (our favorite stepchild acting up). I will be posting some more tonite, including the pic of the Boxter sitting on the guardrail between Five and Six

It was great meeting you Diane. I did have a blast riding in the car with you...thank you!!!
And might become interested in taking one of those classes in the future.
BTW: I know what Robert is talking about and can't wait to see it on tape, I'm just sorry I wasn't in the car that time.....

Definitely come out and take a school sometime. It's a hell of a lot of fun!
I'm glad you weren't in the car that session. I hate it when I have a "moment" with someone else in the car. And this one even scared me a bit. Not the spin, but the situation. I've had my fair share of crisis management practice, but dodging this many cars (or rather being dogded by this many) was a first for me. My first thought when I spin is to get the car off line so Will (Willard) and/or Robert (XR4racer) don't hit me. (They've been behind me my last 2 spins... maybe a pattern???)
To those that haven't a clue what's up here...
Going through Hogpin (16 and 17) at VIR, I'd cleared the first turn and must have hit a slicker part of the track since the rear-end didn't stay where it was supposed to be. Knowing Robert was just behind me, I let the car come around 180 before I locked it down so I could see what was coming. (You can't avoid what you can't see.) Looked like Robert was going to his right, so I went to my right. The corvette behind Robert went left (much to my surprise) and we stopped maybe a car length from each other. Thank goodness for good Corvette brakes. Everyone else got by behind Robert on the right (my left) and I got to hit the pits for a trip to see Jack (b18cxr, running control) and Lee (the VIR pit-out guy). We all lived through it and no cars were bent in the making of this forthcoming video clip from Robert.

Diane - Two other cars did the exact same thing you did, the burgundy Golf and one of the 944's. Don't know if they were off-line or just hit a slick spot, but they both went around real quick. The Golf stayed on track, but there was no traffic like in your case. The Porsche went off driver's left, but right where another car would have smacked it. Touchy moments.
I was watching traffic entering 15 when I heard your spin. I had seen the train go by so I started waving yellow even before 17 had a flag out. Dan was doing a great job watching my flags from 15, so he had yellow out too. Kept a bad situation from being much worse... I caught up with it just in time to see Robert heading around you on the inside of the track - he got sideways too.
Should have heard the call from 17 --- "Seventeen to control, uh yeah, we just had the uh, black and yellow Mee-otter spin in traffic. I think it's ok though."

Ok folks.. here's a little taste of the video clip that will be posted soon. As everybody who participates in this sport knows, there is quite a bit of risk involved, and if you continue to put your car on track, you will eventually spin or be involved in an incident. Diane is an excellent driver, (I have ridden with her), but spinning is part of pushing your car to it's limit, and it will eventually happen to everybody. Luckily there were no impacts in this incident and nobody was hurt. Thanks to Diane for being a good sport and letting me post these pics. What you can't see is the train of cars behind me who were also trying to decide which way to go.
