I thought he said 6 foot 5" at first.

You didn't even give me enough time to edit my post!

I'm 5'7" and I tippy toe when the bike is straight up. I just have to give it a little lean and I am on the ground flat footed. Also, most bikes these days have a coilover set-up that allows you to raise and lower the ride height. You should be fine with most 600's.

Are you 5 foot 5" and big/strong, or 5 foot 5" 90 lbs? If you're strong you can handle a bigger bike (600 CC's etc) but if you aren't than the smaller the better. It sounds like you're new, so you should be thinking small anyway.

Sit on a few 250's, 500's, and older (meaning 8-10 years old, not 2002 old like Georgiajdm would say) 600's and see how they feel. You're definately at a disadvantage for your height as far as balancing the bike. But you're probably light as **** so you'll go faster (which is also bad at this point.)

Some days, my **** just isn't light.

Have you (romeo) tried sitting on some bikes?

One option is to shave down the seat or remove some of the padding in the seat itself. This will help a little bit.

I read on the CBR List that the CBR900RR (fireblade) shock is the same (in terms of mounting points) found in the one for the CBR600F2 (maybe F3, also), with the one exception that it's about 1/2" shorter. So if you're looking into getting an F2/3, then that's another option.

Well height is adjustable on the rear coilover on most of the newer bikes.

That's what I mean, the rear coilover. Anyways, like Nerdish says, you have to be pretty strong to handle a 600. Mine weighs around 340lbs. and it took all my strength one time to get it back up when it was falling over from a stand still.(Stats: I'm 5'7" 165lbs. max bench 275lbs.)

But, you could also fall over even if you can flat-foot the bike. Like if you put your foot onto a puddle of oil.

Or, you could stall while riding and just tip over (like the movie with the dude on the brand new Ducati).

And I've passed over 15% before on my bike. And still kept it from dropping.

Don't let your height, or lack thereof, keep you from trying motorcycling out. At worst, you'll try, and find that you are incapable of riding. Oh well! At least you've tried! BTW, there are MANY female riders out there who manage just fine, even if they aren't as tall as 5'5".

Good luck to you. Ask us more questions if you've got them.

Shock preload isn't there for height adjustment, it's there for suspension tuning

340lb supersport bike? Rear adjustment for ride height? Why did you even mention how much you bench press? That doesn't say anything about your lower body which last time I checked keep the bike upright at a light. Course maybe you're a long armed ape or something. Looks like it from reading your posts...

romeo, dont give up hope... im 5'6" and have no problems riding my 00' Gixxer 600 and i have ridden bigger bikes without a problem. one of my buddies is 5'4" and has no problems riding his R6. the only thing that will be difficult is tight manuvers like walking it out of a parking space or backing it up.... now, go out and get yourself a 600. take the MSF course and enjoy...
