So, what's the scoop on these? Are they actually gonna be DOT approved. What compounds? Release date?

They look like friggin F1 slicks...

I doubt DOT approval, but cool nonetheless.

They could be DOT - in fact they look a lot like Hoosiers.

definately DOT. There are 2 grooves as per DOT requierments and they even have wear bars.

Reasonably priced racing tires get a big from me.

Unfortunately, if recent history is any indication of the current state of Kumho product development pace, we won't be seeing these for a WHILE. In the case of the ECSTA V700, the product was delayed only to eventually introduce a tire that combined the compound of its predecessor with a tread design more prone to tire wear and tread squirm. The ECSTA MX was hugely delayed as well. Remains to be seen how long it will be before we see this new tire, and the REAL version of it once they get it right.

Hehe... True dat. Considering this is a PROTOTYPE, i'd bet 2005 ETA at the earliest. And then they'll screw up the compound and maybe get it right by 2006...

How many different compounds did they try on the Ecstas V700A anyway, 3-4, or more?

JS, who'll try to remember to check which compound is on the 235-45-13s he'll be racing on this weekend.

You got that right. I waited a year for the MX's to come out. Ran thru a set of 712 and decided to go with Eagel F1 instead of waiting for Kumho. I'd figure another 14-16 months post intial release date as the offical in store release date for any other tire they come up with.

Way to Go Kumho!!!
