Most manufacturers recommend staying within 1.5" of the tire width, but I have seen 10" slicks run several times on 8" wheels with no side effects. Only problem I can think of is that you might not have the full contact patch when inflated. Tubes are not necessary with most slicks. The bead will hold air at the track, but let them sit for a few days and they will leak down. I'd rather put air in them every few days than pay the price for tubes.
good luck,
Jared

i was thinking the same about running tubes..i didnt really want to run them, and i didnt want to have to buy them as well.

so ya think i might be ok with a 10.5 inch tire on an 8 inch wheel? just suffer some contact patch??

Im running 9.5" tyre on an 7" wheel, but the tyre was designed for that. Check the specs on the tyre it may be designed to run on an 8".

the slicks will fit on the rims with no problems, The 28x10.5 ET drags are the same size as 28x12.5 ET streets. We have 28x12.5 ET streets on a set of 15x8 wheels, and they fit fine.
