90-93 accord tranny vs. h23 tranny?
im putting an h2 in a 91 accord and wanted to know how different the gear ratios are than the h23 tranny. Also, can the accord tranny hold the power of the h2? i mean it was designed for an engine with 70 less horsepower than the h2. I dont want to invest any money/time/effort on a seperate tranny if i dont have to, but i dont want the tranny to be ripped out either.
thanks
thanks
the f22 tranny will be fine strength wise with an h22a (thats what im assuming you are referring to when you mentioned the h2)
The f22 tranny's syncro's however will not like the higher RPM shifting.
Bottom line, use the appropriate tranny for the motor it was designed for.

other bottom line - i dont have any cash
so if i use the accord tranny, it will be reliable?
but it will grind at higher rpms?
my friend has an h23 tranny with his h2(2a) in his 91 accord. It doesnt grind, the gear ratios are nice. After i shift with the accord tranny, will i be out of VTEC due to long gear ratios?
I have heard that a couple of holes need to be drilled to put the h23 or h22 tranny in the manual 90-93 accords. True or False?

This isnt the type of project to do with little extra cash, it can get expensive quickly

It will work fine relatively speaking, but the 1-2 shift will probably be slow because of the crap syncro's. I had an h22a with an f22 tranny personally before I sold it. Its not worth it, its alot better than an f22 obviously, but after about 10k on it I couldnt shift into 2nd at high rpms without it grinding

They are nice compared to what? A minivan? lol, have you ever ridden an h22a prelude or something else that has an h22a with the correct tranny? Its a big difference.

I used to have a 5th gen and I'm not as familiar with the 4th gens, im sure someone else knows.
Bottom line, save for an h22a tranny and thank me in the morning.

this is sorta off topic, but an h22 tranny will bolt up to the f22 right? and the gears would be shorter making it more fun to drive , but my highway gas milage woiuld suffer correct?.......... my auto tranny is fucked so im looking at all the possibilities

yeah, i have an h23a1 tranny on my accord (turbo) and it is a blast to drive. observed 24mpg on the last tank, even with tons of abusive driving!!

Hey Nick - what problems did you run into?
by "nice gear ratios", I meant it was quick and he didn't lose VTEC on shifts
(high 14s at track w/i/h/e)
I could afford the tranny, but would rather get it down the road if possible, maybe 10,000 miles away. You think that would work w/stock clutch too if I didnt dog the absolute crap out of it?
Also - if anyone knows whether or not holes have to be drilled for the tranny let me know.

on a 4th gen if you use the accord mount which lines the engine up perfectly on a 5spd to 5spd swap you DO have to tap one hole for the mount to attach. if you do a auto to 5spd use the prelude mount on the tranny.
and there was a featured 4th gen LX in honda tuning a few years back making over 400 turbocharged HP with an f22a1 using the stock tranny without ANY issues.
