Insurance Help
Hi Everyone-
I was recently hit in the rear bumper of my car while stopped at a light. There was a slight dent and scratch, the alignment of the bumper is not straight and I already have had a quote on the damage through a very nice shop in Utah that works primarily on Mercedes, Porsches, BMWs, etc. The claims agent is coming to my home tomorrow to look at the damages and I was wondering how this works? This is my first incident, so excuse my lack of experience. The quote I got on my car was $1,117.01 through Wasatch Auto (the body shop). I also received another quote for $716.76 which didn't include the inner subframe damage. I don't plan on notifying the agent off this other quote, because I have been told by law you need only one quote. Well the damage as far as I know doesn't seem like enough for me to fix it so as of now I don't plan on getting it fixed and would rather pocket the money. So here are my questions:
1) How does the whole process work?
2) Will they automaticaly write me a check for the quote I received?
3) If (2) doesn't apply, how do they bargain?
4) By law, are you required to fix the damages?
Any other help on this topic is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance

It depends on your insurance. For my insurance which is AAA they will send me off to get a quote. After deciding on a place to get it fix, the shop will call my insurance agent. Then its up to the agent and the shop owner to debate on what is a reasonable price. AAA are such cheapass that they will often disagree with everything thats needed to be replace and the cost to replace it.
As I remember it after the shop finish the repair, the insurance will send the check to them directly. Now I know there are insurance out there that will cut a check and give it directly to you after you get a quote for the damage, like State Farm.
For third question I'm not sure by law is it required that you fix it but some of the other members here can shed some light on that.

Well the guy who hit me, his insurance company is paying for it, I'm sorry I didn't clarify that a little bit more. His insurance is Farmers, and I already filed the claim, so HIS claims adjuster is coming over to my home tomorrow to look at the damage. I just hope they don't write a check directly to Wasatch Auto otherwise I'll be pissed.
Oh well I guess...Long Live My
