Okay I have a leaky aftermarket sunroof and the rubber hose that goes around it that stop the water from coming in has been discountinued. So i went to a couple of bodyshops to see if i can get it taken out and filled in but most of them won't even do it and the ones that will do it wanna charge me an arm and a leg. They told me it'll effect the strucktrual integrity of the car at high speed and may start to rust/crack if not done properly??? My question is who here has taken out there sunroofs? Anything wrong with it so far or any problems? Or should i just get another sunroof put in.

 

you may want to look in the drag racing forum. Lots of those guys take out their sunroofs for weight reduction. Usualy filled with fiberglass, lexan or even carbon fiber. But if you still want a sunroof I would just buy a new one.

 

Yeah someone on this board sells CF inserts that covers the hole and then some.

I could see how adding a sunroof to a car without one could affect the structural rigidity of the frame, but filling one in should only help.
Most auto parts stores sell weather stripping, have you tried that? If you must take out the roof, cut and weld a piece of metal back into the hole. The weld needs to be sanded and the top of you're car repainted. Plus, you might consider getting a new headliner cause you're old one got a hole in it. If a shop did all that, $700 doesn't sound tooooo bad, assuming you can do none of the work yourself.
