Type R owners: If you could do it all over again...
if you could take what you've learned through trial and error, or just trial, and had success with, what would be the best b18c5 setup for awesome power while retaining stock reliability and longevity. I am set on all motor, probably with CTR pistons, but everything else is yet to be determined. I have spent a ton of money on superchargers, nitrous, and all kinds of broken parts, and I'm sick of my car breaking and giving problems. I am putting the 'c5 back in and eventually selling my car so I can buy another '98 ITR. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A stock motor.
Seriously, I'm not being an ***.

so you wouldnt even put CTR pistons in it? stock intake, header, etc? I decided on CTR pistons because they are Honda parts, and coated like the ITR pistons.
I would do a Mugen Intake, larger throttle body, custom ported Intake manifold, port and polished head, your choice of bling headers, 2.5" exhaust, and hondata.
I'd keep everything stock or maybe just a little more agressive cams, like Toda A's or any of it's equivalent.
I'd also tear the engine down and do a complete rebuild and balanced and blueprint everything to spec.

are you putting the pistons in yourself???
if not, then reconsider the cost of swapping out the pistons and putting new ones in...for that amount of money, custom boltons from hytech or SMSP can be had

CTR pistons are the cheapest thing that'll give you ~12.3:1 compression. I wouldn't say they're the best thing for reliability. My own personal belief is that 12.3:1 is more than I'm comfortable with running on pump gas, so if reliability is an important concern for you, no, I would not do it.
Intakes are, for the most part, worthless. You can make just as much power (in most cases) by simply removing the stock airbox and leaving the stock elbow and filter, for free. I don't like unnecessary noise (especially when it's only worth 2~3 hp) so I leave my stock intake complete, although I did waste $70 on a K&N filter.
Headers have some potential to make lots of power and are important to the shape of your powerband. The problems are that they are more prone to damage (usually it seems that the more power they make the easier they are to damage) than the stock manifold and they cost money. Also, most of the header designs out there that make the best power require the use of a new catalytic converter. These converters are arguably less resiliant than the OEM unit and may not pass inspection in some states. Again, if utmost reliability is an important concern, I'd mildly recommend against an aftermarket header.
I'm not saying the stock motor is impossible to improve, just that it is an excellent balance of reliability and performance. Just about anything you change will result in a sacrifice somewhere, however small or large.
Then again, I'm (slowly) building a new motor, myself. I could tell everybody what's going in it, but I'd rather wait til it's done.

well, right now, I have a bare block and complete head, since the JRSC violated 3 of the stock pistons. I have a DC 4-1 header with the 2.5" collector which I planned on reusing, along with a cheap intake, but I have seen some guys run a stock airbox. I could use one from a '99 SI. I am already planning on replacing the pistons, TBelt, water pump, oil pump, rings, bearings, and having the head checked and cleaned.

-i agree
but if you do feel the need to spend money....use it on tires and TRACK THE HELL OUT OF It

I like my car as is: stock internals, i/h/c/e, 23mm sway.
I think a bolt-on equipped (or totally stock) ITR with hondata and some good tires/brake pads/fluid is more than enough.
If you are a really excellent driver, I guess a nice suspension, but really? stock is pretty damned good.
If I could go back and do it all over again, I'd have asked that girl out in college instead of just being her friend....

man if i had to do it ALL over again i'd do it like this
ctr camshafts
toda camgears
jdm itr pistons
jdm 4-1 header
mugen intake
kenji chipped ecu
and sense I work at amachine shop i'd also:
-extrude hone intake manifold
-port match t/b i/m
-port and polished head
-micropolished crank
-balanced rotating assembley
-port and polished cylinder head

I've had the R for two years(*knock on wood*) and still feel content with its stock form. I just wish it had more midrange torque to help acceleration towards the higher revs quicker.
Then again, I am still haven't tracked the R so it's hard to say.

wish i woulda kept it more confortable and more fun to drive ont he street.
street driven racecars kidna suck after a while. she's gonna be a garage queen soon , i can see it now .

If I could do it all over...
Hondata
Mugen intake
Toda header with stock exhaust (or, complete HYTECH w/ built in cat)
But, since those cost so much, I think stock is just dandy.
