Default Code 9 problem

my car is throwing a code 9. i went through the trouble shooting procedure in the online manual and endied up with this. the resistance checked out fine. my wiring checked out fine. when the ecuwas plugged in the CYL sensor was grounded. where the manual states that if it is grounded replace the dist. just to make sure i checked all the wiring i made my self. first i almost fixed it but the code came back the second time i started the car. also when i unplug the ecu the grounded cyl doesnt ground anymore. is this a bad ECU or bad dist.

Replace the dizzy. It is the cyl position sensor, the only way to fix it is to replace the dizzy. I just had to do the same thing.

I am going through the same thing right now. I bought a used ($100) distributor online and it threw a code 9 right after i installed it. I broke down and bought a brand new one. I am coming to hate this code since i have been driving around with a poorly idling car for quite some time now. Hopefully this will fix all of that. Keep us updated if you try anything that works.

i have had that same code since the day i swaped my engine
i recently a few days ago replaced my dizzy with an LS one. a known good dizzy... the code went away but came back after a few minutes after driving... both dizzy's are comming out good, and the euc doesnt trow that code in my friends car... i checked the conections and wiring from ecu to dizzy plug and its all good... i am still trying to fig out how to fix it,... i will update ASAP.......

i think i stumbeled on the answer. when i was testing my dist the connector i soldered on to the cyl sensor un soldered itself so i decided i might as well fix it. same thing happened at the ecu when i was ****** around with it. bottom line=i resoldered 2 connections one at the ecu and one at the dist and my code went away. idles smooth. check your solder joints
