tyre decisions. Victoracers or Ecstas 225/50 vs 225/45
So, getting ready to order some Victoracers and noticed something...
the Esctas come in 225/45wr15 ($120/ea) vs the Victoracers 225/50zr15 ($117/ea).
So, I'm thinking the shorter overal diameter would be better for acceleration and the shorter sidewall would make it stiffer.
Am i right in my line of thought.
I've run the victoracers for years now and like them very much, just wondering if the shorter aspect ratio is worth it?

One thing I noticed, a 225 victoracer is about half an inch wider than the 225 Ecsta v700.
I was so dissapointed with Ecsta this weekend I went and bought a set of hoosiers.
Wrong way **** was doing good on the shaved victoracers though.

If you can find out if the Ecstas are the new K6A compound then that would be my deciding factor. I have driven on both compounds and can say that the K6A is a much better compound. The shorter side wall of the Ecstas would be helpful unless your gears are already too short (which I doubt).
AutoX or track? I just ran some V700's last week at Lime Rock for about 40 min total and they do not look to good. They were shaved and heat cycled and are the old K8Y compound. The outer tread is chuncked and the center treads look eroded, like they were way too hot. I ran about 40psi hot. I had a set I got last year that was fine, same car, same suspension, same track, same pressure.
For autox, another set is working fine. I am kind of annoyed that the set I got last Feb for autox, 235/45/13, are also the old compound. GRM tested the K6Y compound last year, but they are still shipping the old!

Shorter profile makes a noticable difference. Both shorter gearing and more tire clearance. I've had 225/50's rub where the 225/45's do not.

Keep in mind that Esctas use radically different tire pressures than Victoracers. They seem to like "hoosier pressure" from my experience. Sadly, I didn't learn this until after the Petersburg ProSolo.
The K6As also like heat a bit better than the K8As, and I've had K8As start chunking...
Also, if they are meant to be tires for the dry, you MUST shave Esctas, or they will more definately chunk.
