kelly! jdmhondaparts cf hood
i read somewhere that you picked up a jdmhondaparts.com hood. how do you like it? was it hard to install? also did you get any hoodpins or anything? thanks a lot.
since dat f00 isn't here t00 much lately, I'll answer for him
1) yes, he picked up a CF hood from http://www.jdmhondaparts.com
2) he likes it very much
3) easy to install, it's only held in w/ 4 screws
4) no hoodpins
5) you're welcome

i'd like to thank my secretary,...er...good friend yoshi for fielding some of my questions. i'll have to give him a raise. er....start paying him, i mean. huhu..
i'm a dork and never weighed the hood when i had it off the car (or, rather, not on the car yet). i'll weigh it next time it's off the car (which will be in the next two weeks, for a silly auto-x...dammit..the things i'll do to stay in stock class for the rest of the year!), and give a good comparo. it's definitely lighter, but definitely also *NOT* one of those race CF hoods (which is good, i didn't want one of those..those things are friggin' light as hell and i didn't want to worry about that aspect quite yet...).
yosh pretty much hit the nail on the head on all fronts. i was intending to buy a fiber images hood through JHP, but ended up going with theirs instead. the edges are among the best i've seen on a CF hood, actually wrapping around to the underside and not looking sawed off or anything like that. the gel coat is definitely thicker than lots i've seen (this would be a personal preference thing, i suppose...it gives it a look as though the weave is actually farther under the main surface.
i'm not running hood pins at this time, although speedpak mentioned he saw some decent fluctuation in his hood at speeds of around 130 mph (
). the gaps around the front are very minimal, but then start to pull away a little at the creases a little. i put on the stock hood weather striping stuff. the only gromets that aren't on as well are two of the larger ones toward the middle of the hood that would require drilling. we'll see about that, i guess.
this hood definitely grows with heat, i've noticed. the up/down gaps on the sides of the hood are more prevalent in the morning, when it's cold, and then the hood hugs more towards the contour of the fenders as it gets warmer. fits perfect in the afternoon, up-and-down wise.
local pick up RAWKS, btw....saves some hefty cash! thanks sheng and katman @ JHP...and fais for the info. (:
ed ~ glad j00 had fun at the meetup thang yetsterday...i thought about hitting it, but it sounded like it would be too crowded and i didn't want to impose, so i went swimming instead. (:
if you're ever up in my neck of the woods, let me know...you're welcome to stop by and check it (the hood) out anytime.
oh jeah, and ken ~
fiberglass underneath...i'll take some pics sometime soon...there should be some from the expo as well, but not up super close or anything.
oh, and i saw my first spoon hood up close at the expo on a EG sedan last week..wow. what a thing of friggin' beauty.

thanks for all the good info. just one quick question, how big are the gaps near the side fenders in the morning, thats the only thing im really worried about, it looking fugly because of the gaps. dankeshan
