You have a point but while in arizona and under 120 degrees, wearing a helmet is not the best feeling....

I used to ride there for 3-4 years... Had a car too and drove mostly at night )

no not really, I have lost friends on bikes and fallen a couple of times enough to know it hurts.

I am just struck by the amount of people in the US that strip off to go riding

why would you force enlightenment on the ignorant, they simply rebel and natural selection continues... oh right, insurance rates. Now I care... a little

If you happen to hit someone on a bike who isn't wearing any gear and you watch him loose his skin I think you might start to care then also. You are right that there is no need to protect the ignorant but there is also a need to protect the innocent. Think of how you would feel if you killed someone on a bike while in your car because they were ignorant and didn't want to wear gear. It's not your fault but I'm sure you would still be bent out of shape about it. I understand a persons right to act stupid and have a death wish or whatever but often times it involves more than just themselves when death catches up to them.

Good post. I currently ride around with just a long sleeve tee which I know does nothing for my protection. I'm always aware that I can be in some serious pain the minute I make a mistake on the bike. I'm going shopping for gear this weekend.

Quick Q: I'm hurt for $$$ and I know buying online can save me a bundle. I just need help sizing though.
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 165lbs.
Waist Size: 32-33
Should I get a medium or large? Or should I go to a bike shop, try on jackets first and then order it online?

I think that would be your best bet to get a good fit.

or buy it on the spot at the shop since they aren't there as your fitting service so some online retailer makes a profit at their expense....

Who cares about this subject. Thats why we live in the UNITED STATES, because we are free to do what we want. Inorance is complaining about what freedom we have and that is we can do what we want. Some people have sex without condems and take that chance, some people ride with no gear, some drive with no seatbelt, some share the same needle when shooting up, and some people do completely the opposite. Who gives a sh%t. People do what they want and what happens after that is there destiny. Leave it alone. BTW, I gear up.

Honestly I wouldn't feel too bad in that particular situation. I drive like a ***** in my daily beater b/c well... it only allows me to drive that way. The only two good things on that car are the brakes and tires. Anyways, if I hit him and its my fault I would damn bad and responsible. Especially since I'd be the dumbass in a cage in that story. He hits me or is at fault, I wouldn't feel too bad at all but would still extend the courtesy of first on scene trauma and contact emergency response. And I would sleep damn well that night

I believe in this situation, they ARE my fitting service. I look for saving money and in this case, I could care less about the store or their profit, people like you will make up for it.

mention the online price including shipping and usually they can come very close and still make a decent profit. Plus you won't have to wait. What's the harm in asking?

That's a good point. I never thought of the whole "price matching" thing. I'll see what they say.

Riding with no gear is stupid, if you value your life wear full gear.
