v twin vs in line
I have a TL-1000R and it's ok but i like 4's better then v twin's . My tl sound's bad *** but just doesnt have the power i need I wish i keep my 900-rr . Can some one give me pro's & con's of the two
When i look at WSB the duck all way's does a good job . But not on the street well when i ride my friend's

the twin configuration allows for a much flatter as well as larger torque curve. This allows even power application without overloading the rear wheel. Thus the rider can apply power earlier and for a longer duration than on a similar inline 4 powered bike. Also the vtwin setup puts the weight a bit lower. Tuning can increase the peak power of a twin as well as increase the driveability of an inline 4 torque curve to a point. Ducati's are well funded and piloted. That's why they are successful. Their R&D is similar to the honda supersport effort
if you want something fast get a different bike......i also own a TL1000R and sometimes wish they were alot faster....but they are still fun bikes to ride and the sound is awesome......i will never get rid of my TLR i might end up buying another bike but will always have the TLR around to ride........there not to bad in the 1/4 10.9 stock...i have mine in the 10.5 with a constant 10.6.....but on a highway....your friends 600cc will probably dig in your ***.....
you really dont have a choice you want something faster get a new bike....want all the low end torque and pull up wheelies with ease and have the one of a kind sound keep the TLR........

this is a myth and isn't true anymore. 4's have great flat torque curves too now. get a bike mag and overlay your favorite inline 4s and v-twins and you'll see.
and vtwins put more strain on chains and tires with their more powerful but less frequent power pulses.
thats why harley went to a belt drive. it absorbs the pulses and doesnt wear out as fast.
vtiwns do seem to have stronger engine braking characteristics so a good throttle hand can drive the bike around better supposedly. but overall i am thinking the vtwins are just stronger right off idle and thats about it.
they also get poorer fuel economy with larger combustion chambers getting less ideal burns.
these are just my opinions. i am no expert.

Falcon is right, it all depends on someone's prefrences. My best friend has an SV650s, but used to have a Ninja zx-6r. After having the SV, he doesnt think he would go w/o a v-twin. Ive rode it, and I prefer a more "sportbike feel" of my gixxer. But his is so much more comfotable

Sure it's true -- given equal (or near equal) displacement.
The longer stroke and larger piston size of the twin is going to give it more torque .. sooner.</TD></TR></TABLE>
sooner as in 1k-3k rpm? where you only notice pulling away from a stop? and not actually while out riding above 15mph? i guess so. i am a magazine racer and the dyno plots dont go below 3k usually. and i havent had any seat time on a rc51, superhawk, or tiller. i know the 4cylinder engine with its 4 smaller cylinders isnt going to breathe as effeciently from 1-3k so i guess thats what you're talking about. its a real bitch to make those big long vtwin cylinders breathe real well up top like the inline 4's do...

I had a 97 CBR F3 600...my friend let me ride his SV 650. The SV could easily tear the f3 up on the low end...but when I could crack my bike up to like 5500 rpm or so, the SV didn't have a chance. The SV seemed to have a smoother power band, not as twitchy as my CBR.
dammit falcon, quote my whole post if you're going to critique..."Tuning can increase the peak power of a twin as well as increase the driveability of an inline 4 torque curve to a point." I don't pass myths or regurgitate mag reviews. Twins usually get slippers as well due to the increased engine braking effect. I mean in the smaller displacements well before 4s but then again these days nothing stays the same. zx6rr?? In my experience, parallel twins always idle like they're a bit sick. I haven't run across a parallel that liked it below 3.5k. It'll make plenty of power but it doesn't balance out to around 5k. I've heard the same about the chain/sprocket wear but wouldn't mention b/c I have little experience in that respect
