DX tranny swap into a STD
I own a 1991 base hatchback and get about 340 miles to the tank. I have others owning DX hatches tell me that they get as much as 420 miles to the tank, so I want to swap the 4-speed out and put in a DX 5-speed. Here are the questions: 1) Since the DX has 92HP and the ase having 70HP, will the differing gear ratios do harm or good? 2) Will the car accellerate faster? (I don't really care about going faster, but I don't want to go any slower. I mainly just want that 5th OD gear to shift into on the freeway to bring the RPMs down to get better gas mileage. 3) What all parts do I need to do the swap? Will I need a different clutch kit? What is everything I will need to do the job? Thanks.
some say the std has a smaller tank and u should be getting better gas milage thanm ur friend having less HP than him and the gearing in a dx trans will make ur car accelerate faster than with the 4spd the std trans is *** but u shouldnt get better mileage might be the same or worse i forget the gearing of the two been a while
The only thing I've heard about the std gear ratios is that theyre the exact same as the crx hf except no 5th gear. I dont know if that also applies to the FD being the same. Thats all I've heard.
its a straight foward work..... just swap trannies.... DX will be a lot better than the STD... 4 speed its trash..
u just need basic tools in order to perform all that work.,....
unless u got a 88 car, then u need an 88 tranny to fit ur clutch kit...if u have an 89-91 then any other tranny will work
to find out if a tranny its 88-91 just look on the input shaft that goes into the clutch kit and engine.... on the tip before the spindles, if theres no groove, its 88, 1 groove its a 89 and 2 grooves its 90-91
