Default Rear heat shield by axle, needed?

After installing my JDM 4-1 and cat, it pushed back my Mugen exh just enough for it to touch the heat shield, and make the heat shield touch the body of the car...causing all sorts of rattles and vibrations. I got under there today and tried to bend it out of the way, but there is just no room for it to be spread further apart.
So I just took the fawking things off! I removed the one right under the middle of the car (resonator area) as well as the one that has the bend that goes by the gas tank and up to the axle area.

My question is this...is there any danger in not running these? I am thinking it will be ok, but Id like to have SOME reassurance I will not burst into flames on the way to work tomorrow....

I've been using my Mugen exhaust with no heat shields at all for about 20k miles. That includes about 8 hard track days too...and I don't think you will ever get it as hot on the street as on the track. My car hasn't blown up yet, is that reassurance enough for you?
