Default This month's GRM

Very nice.

- David Fauth's DSP BMW 325... you guys remember David used to come here a bit? He was GS National chap for 2 years with the ITR. He is doing well with the new car.

- tire test of Ventus vs. Toyo vs. A032R-S was interesting.

- I think the $2003 challenge is stupid.

- Wessex Racing's CRX is dope spec wise (I'm not a fan of its look/paint scheme tho). 245 whp, 1700 lbs. That's about 11 second performance in the 1/4! And it handles and corners like mad with slicks. interestingly they said springs rates are 550 lbs up front and 900 rear... i would've think the slicks want higher rates than that... I've wanted to do a super fast road race honda project for a long time, just no funds. Some times soon i hope i can do one and really represent.

Everybody has different tastes in things they like. I personally find the $200x Challenges to be inspiring and full of creativity... having a limit of just over $2000 dollars total for the car and everything that is part of it is definately a challenge. One day I will enter one of the challenge events!

I thought David Fauth sounded familiar...

to you. Don't knock it til you've been there. It's one of the coolest and fun times I've had doing something car related. It's awesome meeting all the other participants and the GRM staff is second to none in putting on a really fun event and so nice to talk to. The coverage in the magazine is excellent but in no way matches or can describe what happens when you're there. It's such a blast.

I think the Challenge is a great idea....

But how can you get/build a V8 Miata that looks that nice for $1998......?

Disclaimer:
(I don't know the guys so I'm not calling anyone a liar or cheater, It just struck me as a tad bit cheap..... basically the car just looked like a ringer, to me.)

Looks like they did it by recouping money on selling parts. I looked at the tentative rules for next year, and there is a cap on the max amount you can recoup, $1002, so cars like that may not pop up again (fingers crossed )

Well you have ot remeber, that they can sell pars off of the car and get cridt back, and you have to keep a detial accoung of money spend and money you got for selling parts... so if they had all of that they must be legit.

just being able to get the motor/car for less than that is tough but can be done. They were the guys that won last year with the BMW 2002. Those guys have amazing fabrication skills and put in more time than you can imagine. There's 4 of them constantly working on the car. I talked to them last year and they basically put together a 4 person team of the best people in there skill to go out and win this thing. They don't do it for fun, they do it to win, period. They custom fabbed everything on last years car from the shifter, pedals, engine mounts and made a tunnel that went thru the cabin that the exhaust was under, it exited out the side before the rear wheel so it was tucked up under the car. Kinda hard to imagine but just amazing work. They put the time in and do a ridiculous amount of labor. They make so many parts that you wouldn't even think of making, you'd just go buy it. But if they can save $20 here and there and just make it from dirt cheap materials they will.

that's a lot. I bet they didn't even recoup that much money. The other part of the rule is you can't recoup more than you paid for something. So if you buy a $400 junker and sell off parts you can only claim $400 back.

Don't count on it. It 's rule for everyone so it'll still be the same deal. Those guys are just good.

that's what you need to do. that's what we did. Just competing was a blast. I don't have the skills those guys do so for me to expect to win is a bit much. Just do it to have fun.

When you can scam drives in cars with $2000 brake rotors, junkyard dogs just aren't cool anymore.

keep "scamming" rides in your $2000 brake rotor cars. If that's what you like then this is obviously the wrong thing for you.

2003 challenge stupid?

Guess you could always take $2003 and rent someone's race car, total it and another car <instead>

Cheers..

my thoughts EXACTLY. some of those cars just isn't possible with out some creative work on the pricing. i admit i'm not familiar with the rules. is the pricing on honor system?

you guys are so lame. facts will show it wasn't my fault; yes i spun. no biggie, anybody that pushes the limit will spin in qualifying from time to time. it wasn't my fault that he ran into me. he didn't look ahead far enough (it was not a blind corner) and he didn't slow down at all. tell me, how is the fact me got t-boned my fault? stupid ppl. i've talked to many experienced (and respected) racers and they tell me to keep my head up. despite all the haters' efforts, i'm still around. feeling better and stronger than ever.

it was at best a racing incident where both parties were at fault. as for my $2000 pimp suit. that was the best xmas gift i've ever had. i wear when it is required (it's our club's instructor uniform). we should be getting a ex factory CLK LeMans car in our next school. and yall know wassup.
