starter on brand new fully built motor? not turning motor over fast enough to start Help
ok, well the motor turns over so slow you can read the alternator belt as it turns, it is brand new all new internals, 310 duartion cams, 13.4 :1 compression
does anyone make a higher torque starter for honda's? i allready replaced the starter with a new one and its still the same, it will turn over if it is jump started by dropping the clutch, but thats not good for the motor..... so anyone have any insight onto what i could do about this,
the motor is turning over so slow it doesnt even register any compression on any of the 4 cylinders
so i confused
THANKS

i dont know if u have checked it or not as some people overlook it... but is ur battery strong enough? it may be dead

is the starter you replaced it with a new one? Because I just did a starter rebuid on my truck, although I havne't heard this problem with honda's before it could just be that your contacts are corroded and you aren't getting enough current through. Starters are easy to pull out so I would do that and take off the dust cover, check to see if there is a bunch of dirt in there. It only takes about 10 minutes to diassemble, take some sand paper to the contacts and plunger, and reassemble. Total should only take around 30 minutes. Good luck!
pull out your spark plugs and unhook the dist.and fuel pump fuse then try cranking it over. that will help you narrow down the problems.
What ^ said, pull the plugs and confirm it spins easily. If not, it's bad news because something is binding.
If it spins fine, then I'd get new starter cables. You said you jumped it to a truck and it still didn't help, so that means its either the cables or a binding engine or a weak starter.
Good luck.

it spins fine , but its still a little tight because of all new bearings with assembly lube on it...... as far as NEW starter no i just got another used one
does anyone make a beefy starter for Honda's?

I've seen 14:1 Hondas with stock starters and good batteries. The most common cause of starting problems on Hondas are corroded or poor grounds, especially when relocating the battery. Make sure you have a good ground at the battery, and still have a good ground from the frame rail to the trans(which is the primary ground for the starter). Do a voltage drop when you're using the starter.
my suggestion would be to check the batery with a vat-40 the battery may read 14 volts but it may be dead to the point where it has low amps. check it under a load. thats not the problem it may just be a weal starter or bad connection somewhere. worst case scenario ure engine is binding. but u say it spins fine so that eliminates that, honda makes a good starter it should turn ure wngine over with no problem.
well im lost .... i got a new battery so ill try that , other than that i confused
You are looking in the wrong spot. The key was "brand new motor"
Something is wrong...too tight bearing clearance, align bore is off, crank a few thousandths out of round, broken ring dragging on a cylinder wall.
BTW, I just fought this problem for 3 days while on the engine stand. Changed bearings, align bored the block, no pistons installed, still would not turn freely. I was using a freshly straightened crank so I new that could not be the problem..wrong. I restraightend the crank a second time and it turned over by hand. Don't blame assembly lube or new bearings etc. Something is wrong.

Anyone thought about that maybe the Timing Belt is way too tight? If you used a Pry-Bar to pry up on the Tensioner, It could be too tight. I've seen it.

well got a new battery today and it turns faster but still only fast enough for 15 psi on all pistons
and the only thing it does with spark plugs is pop once

you might want to go through the motor again. like earl said your bearing clearences could be too tite, better check it out before you do more damage.. its obviously not your battery or starter. good luck
make sure the rod caps are on the rods the correct way (notches for the bearings on the same side)

Would you please check out the cables and the ground connections. That is very likely where your trouble is so don't ignore this advice.
Just go check... now! Enough of the, "I tried a new X and same thing."

put a new ground and its better but still slow, the battery is in the back could that cause the problem... also i have a cutoff switch so i hjave ALOT of battery cable for the power approx 20 ft or more
also .038 was the bearing clearance when i plastic guaged it
