great, Um..rsx/ep3 forum??

short ram intake should suck in hot air from the engine, it's design that way.

they are saying that not because you insalled it wrong but i think they are trying to tell you to get a CAI.

Yes, what iam7head said is exactly right. All short-ram intakes suck in hot enginebay air unless the filter is enclosed in some sort of box or has a shield around it. I'm sure you installed it correctly.

Yes, it's much better for the intake to suck cold air. Why didn't you just buy a cold air intake? It'd be a lot more effective and less of a hassle...

As for the heat sheild, I guess it depends on how effective it is....?

I don't think heat shields are nearly as effective as a cold air intake just because a metal heat shield will just heat up itself and conduct that heat to the intake air. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, the couple degrees difference is not going to make your car a rocket by any means

i think scc or some auto mag. ran a test with rsx on dyno, they use all the cai they can find in US(well, brand name intake in the US)
the heat shield from injen actually make the temp. of the tube run hotter and of course, lower the power.

time to save up for DC or aem CAI now..

exactly if you see temp readings from one of the companys its probably when the car has just barely been started so of course the metal is still cold, but like iam7head said scc did that test on the injen intake+shield for the rsx and it does heat up, I trust SCC's judgement for sure

The AEM CAI for the RSX-S is a massive PITA to install, but makes incredible gains. If you're going to get a shortram, you might as well just cut up the bottom of your airbox and get a K&N drop in, because you're not getting anything more than that for your $215.00.

Definitely go for an AEM CAI...the cold air intake makes a lot of power on the K-series motor, and the short ram I think gains about 3whp max...I've actually seen tests where the short ram loses power compared to stock.

Think about....the filter is almost in the same spot it used to be, so really the only benefit is the better air filter, ya know? The CAI put the filter near the ground where it can suck in outside air.
