Wiring Questions
Allright so i got some problems here, any help is appreciated.
I have a 96-98 EX 5speed ECU and a 99-00 Ex 5speed ECU.
I have a wiring harnessi got off a guy and i have a few questions about it
The harness has 3 plugs at the end, a blue, black, and green.
Both the blue and black fit into the 99-00 ECU, the green does not. I was informed by someone that the 99-00 5speed wiring harness had both the blue and black plugs go into the ECU and the green plug goes under the dash to hook up to my guage cluster and all that.
Now the only question i have about this is- what about the empty socket left in the ECU? The guy told me it is for a different wiring harness hookup- the 99-00 Automatic. He said the 99-00 auto harness has three plugs and the green one, the three plugs thus plugging into the ECU, leaving the green for the dash.
But im just wondering if leaving the empty socket will 1) cause my car not to run. or 2) cause it to run badly thus inflicting damage to my setup.
Any imput?

this should make this clearer. yes the empty plug is used on auto cars. remeber that even if you plug in a 99-00 ecu into the 96-8 harness or vice-versa it will not work as the senor location and pin out is much different on the plug
Sorry i confused it.
i have a 00' EX 5speed engine. and both the 96-98 and 99-00 ECUs. i do not know what wiring harness it is (the guy i got it from is a dumbass) but it fits the 99-00 ECU all but the green plug (the one that supposedly plugs into the dash for the cluster and what not)

am i missing something? you have an unknown wiring harness and it plugs into 99si ecu? doesnt that mean thats its a 99-00 si wiring harness if the other plugs are the same
negative, i have an unknown wiring harness that 2/3 of the plugs go into 2/3 of the sockets on a 99-00 EX ECU. i just wanted to kow if the 3rd plug (the one that ddnt fit) plugs under the dash for my gauge cluster and that the ECU COULD run the car with only 2 plugs plugged into the 3 sockets.
--"to make it clear the 96-98 ex harness has 3 plugs to the ecu.
the 99-00 ex harness has 4 plugs 3 for ecu and 1 for underdash green color i believe"--
Well then i have a 96-98 harness...because it has three plugs...
But when i hook it up to my 96-98 ECU, only one of the plugs fit----two plugs fit on the 99-00 ECU- which lead me to believe it was a99-00 harness.

the 96-98 has 3 plugs coming off the engine harness plus the green one wich goes to your interior harness
the 99-00 has 2 plugs coming off the engine harness plus the grenn one and the 99-00 interior harness has the plug you are looking for
as for you question "will this work"? the answer is NO you cannot interchange 96-98 (OBD2A) and 99-00 (OBD2B) harnesses with out repinning a plug
my suggestion would be to find a 96-98 ex engine harnessand make life easy

You all have it backwards.
