couple of Driving suit questions...
I've got a friend who's got a OMP Nomex III suit for sale. Not quite sure when it was purchased, but he's had it since 2000 I believe. I'm pretty sure it retails for around $600 now brand new. What should I offer him for it?
And, do driving suits have to be replaced periodically like harnesses do?
I'm pretty sure this is the description for it:
709 Master Suit
2001 model 3-layer Nomex "Delta C" suit. Box quilted, serged seams, shoulder bellows, and double-knit rolled collar for added comfort. Available in blue/white, red/white, yellow,/blue, green/black or black/yellow.
reg. $879.95
Sale $599.95

Nomex doesn't lose any of its retardent/resistant properties with age so, as long as it doesn't have any holes or seam failures, you don't need to replace it. Most sanctioning bodies now require EITHER an SFI rating or a specific number of layers - just know what is required.
As far as price, that depends on what your friend wants and what you are willing to offer. I would argue that standard racing depreciation rules make something worth between 30 and 50% of what it cost new, the second it gets used once.

BTW - for maximum protection, a suit should not be as tight as the red one is on her...

Yes the ladies loook GOOd in the picture but, as someone noted, your suit should be a bit more loose than those. You want a comfortable (on the loose side actually) fit when you are sitting down. That is important. You do not want it to bind anywhere. Check it when you are (preferably) sitting in your car and move your arms through the full range on the steering wheel. ANY hint of discomfort should keep you from buying the suit.
Price? Thats up to you.

oh, in that case... I've got the $169 AutoPro 3-layer from Racer Wholesale. Not sure if they still sell those, but the G-Force Pro would be comparable. Yes, I'm on a tight budget.
