New Roadcourse in the NorCal region( Reno actually), anyone have news/knowledge?
A 500 acre facility in Fernley Nevada, designed specifically for family recreation and participation in motor sport activities of many venues.

Copy and pasted this info from the NASA e-mail newsletter:
This road racing course is about 1.5 miles right now, and getting larger as they add different sections. It will eventually be 3.8 miles! There is a paved paddock as well. The track reviews range from “great” to “awesome.”
Location
The Reno track is about a 3-4 hour drive from most of the San Francisco Bay Area. The weather should be reasonable, as the town is at a high elevation. Right now the track is operational, and has been running open testing for the last month.
Other attractions
There are few luxuries there, at the moment. However, this track is part of a 3000 acre recreational area. It has its own airport (Tiger Field), firing ranges, paintball, 3/8TH mile clay oval (Sat night show!), drag racing, skateboard park, and lots more! Participants should bring their kids, their skateboards, their plane, their guns, and their dragster for a weekend of fun!

There was a discussion about this at http://www.improvedtouring.com Basically, only N.A.S.A. has plans to race there. I hear from a Reno region member that the Reno SCCA is sticking with autocross. Road racing is not in their plans. I dunno about any of the other clubs like BMWCCA and PCA or POC. In fact N.A.S.A. has an event on their calendar coming soon.
umm only 1.2 miles are complete. the other 2.2 miles still has not been finshed, nor is there any racing going on. Right now it's only open for test & tune. NASA always says they hold events in the reno area, and the only event i can remember is around the hilton parking lot some years back. SCCA is smart to stick where they are at. The airport has been a fun place to race for 3 yrs now, plus if you break down its cheaper to be in town the BFE.

From the NASA e-mail newsletter:
The next NASA event, featuring all HPDE run groups (at a reduced price!) and all regular NASA race classes, plus the Porsche Racing Challenge, and a 6-hour endurance race into the night (Sat), will be held at a brand new facility in Fernley, Nevada on July 19-20th.

LOL...must mean that the NASA e-mail letter caused them to receive quite a few phone calls...bummer, it's an hour closer than Buttonwillow for me, and I have an uncle that lives up there...hmmm...

Looks like a really fine long track.
They're actually building something... so unlike the every-couple-years-or-so rumors around San Diego about the next "Riverside Replacement." I get so cynical of these "sure things," I've given up that it'll ever happen. So what happened to the sure-thing track near Brown Field anyway. Still born I suspect.
Guess that's what happens when land costs and local government get involved. Almost enough to make you build a racetrack way, way, out in the desert.
Doh.

Wow...back from the dead.
Evidently they've made some safety improvements, let us know your thoughts after running this weekend.

Ha! I flew over it while taking off at Reno airport. I was looking at thinking "hmmm that kind of looks like a racetrack" But didn't think there was one there. What a coincidence.
I was just at the Reno track last Sunday crewing for Acutech Racing. The track is very fast with a 100mph+ front straight that dives into some esses w/o braking! Were talking end to end, length wise, with no braking except for at the end of course. Also the new heavily baked hairpin is cool too.
Track time was $150 a day or $75 for a half day and there were only 3 cars in our run group. By the end of the day so few people were left they just left the track open to do as many laps as you could before closing time.

Where do HPDE beginners pass on the backside? Looks like a recipe for road rage.
Cool to have another track nearby.
What's the altitude of Reno? Figure it's a lot cooler than SP/THill/LS.
