Alright, my ex-girlfriend's car won't start. When I turn the key, it sounds like it's going to turn on, but when I stop turning the key, the car just shuts off. I'm thinking it's the distrubutor. What can I do to check it. What else do you think could be wrong w/ it? Thanks

 

could be fuel as well

 

There's plenty of fuel. My fiend turned on the car, while he was doing so, I opened one of the spark wires. I didn't see any spark coming from the sparkplugs. What could be wrong. The car sounds like it's gonna turn over, but it won't stay on. I tried to gas the car while i turned the ignition but still no luck. Please help.

 

borrow a distributer from a friend's car and see if it works.

 

is it trying to crank at all? maybe starter problems?

 

get a voltmeter and check the battery, then try to crank it over and have someone check the to see what the volts jump up too. if its real low like 3-4v. before and during the crank over you need to replace the battery and hopefully that should solve your problem, similar situation happend to me

 

If you didn"t get any sparks from the distrubutor while trying to strar its your distrubutor.

 

i got new spark plugs, and the car still didn't start. I'm gonna get my friend's distributor, and see if that works. Any other ideas?

 

check your ignitor with a meter i had the same problem and the ignitor was dead
