cam timing
Would anyone mind telling me of their slipped timing belt catastrophies? A friend asked me to look at his Integra. The car's original complaint was the clutch. Once replaced the car was taken for a test drive and the engine stopped while (vigorously or gently?) leaving a stop sign. Then he brought the car to me. It wouldn't turn over. I pulled the plugs to reduce compression and rocked it back and forth in 5th gear to see if the pistons would pist. Then I removed the cam gear cover and the belt is just too loose. I just priced the belt and tensioner at the dealer but are there going to be bent valves for sure?
If this is a tensioner/ belt fix it's one thing but if it's a tensioner/ belt+ valve job what's the bottom line?
Much appreciation in advance

I guess that would be a good place to start. The belt has more than three-quarters inch slack between the timing gears so I assumed the belt had skipped. But you're right, the cam timing may have remained on. Please don't begrudge my d series ignorance. I own two VW Cabriolets, four 82 Supras, an 86 Celica GTS, a pile of Cressida, and a 67 Datsun truck. I have factory repair cds and microfiches, a Mitchell Toyota repair cd set all the manuals for the above cars, specialty tools, but no manual for this car.
If I end up with it I'll by the manual but for now where are the timing marks aligned in relation to the cam cover? Presently they are four teeth off with the intake gear (ten minute pause to verify position) a couple teeth above and the exhaust a couple below. Looks like it must of slipped of the crank because it's clear as the camgears rotate the marks will align. But there is interference with crank rotation when I put it back in gear and rock it.
