Default John Brown calls it quits for 2003...

Brown bows out: John Brown and Team Raptor, Pro FWD winners at the season opener and currently third in points, has announced his withdrawal from the tour following the loss of two of the team's main sponsors.

"This happened with an already exhausted budget and will make it impossible to cover the cost related to campaigning a competitive team," said Brown. "if we can rebuild our budget before the end of the season, Team Raptor will at that point be able to re-join the NHRA event schedule."

not surprised. the car was gorgeous and ran well for what it was but could not compete on GM ,Mopar and rado's level. anyone know what sponsors they lost?? was it STR??

This is a quote posted on the 28th from the PP forum

"The raptor racing civic is undergoing a methonal transfusion and a mid season revamp. the car is going to be within 5 lbs of the legal limit for NHRA. A dyno run of 850hp and 500ft/lbs of tourque has been laid down already"

I have personally seen the sheet...and ive compared it between our 2 cars on the dyno. They were not using all that power at the last race. They realise theres more to it then just pouring on the hp. And Mike, I personally think John is beyond Chris's level just because that car is all self done, Chris's car is not. I know you have beef with John but your not going in the right direction with the way you are talking about it.

hey if you say you saw the dyno sheet then i trust you. i realize that pouring it all out will not yield you 8.0's and if anything will get you 9.0's. i have seen johns turbo setup and in my opinion i wasnt to sure that turbo could put out near 850whp. is john spraying the car?? if not I dont think what you saw was legit, sorry. not on that turbo, manifold, and gas. forget beef its just not believable unless he sprayed the **** out of it.

It was something better then a dyno sheet. It was actually the comp. at the dyno where they dyno there car and I used as well. John runs the same turbo I run. I have been able to make 650whp on gas at 25 pounds of boost. The hp figure was what they did on methanol, not gasoline. Im sure it was also at more boost as well. So with the extra boost and meth...850whp is not a crazy figure. Put it like this. I saw it with my own 2 eyes. It wasnt like they were even trying to show me the figure...we just compared my car vs. theirs at the end of dynoing.

Heres more take on the raptor civic vs. rado thing. Chris has run a 8.33 which is smokin. Yeah, that car is very nice as well. Heck, the guy that painted it black did the paint on my car as well. But the raptor has run a 8.59. Thats only a couple tenths off pase of rado. By saying that rado is way above their level is like saying jojo running a 8.8 and venom running those times as well is far of pase of the jotech car, mopar, and lance ho lung. Sure they have gone faster...but all the partys are game to take home the win. Catch the dude slipping at the lights and its ur race

hey meth is another story and maybe i misjudged the size of the turbo by looks but it didnt look any larger than a t72. I think its clear rado is still going to stay consistent and run deeper into the 8's. John did run a 8.59 and some 8.6's but you know as well as i know to drop 2 tenths way down there is very tough. besides the fact the car has 2 drivers which in my opinion isnt a great idea. I just dont see that car being as competitive as the others in the field sorry.it looks to me like rado went from 10's and 9's where he was way off pace to 8.5's and 8.3's one week after another. I think he will be 8.2 or better before the end of the year for sure. he also has had some real good mph which shows he is making some good HP.

by the way, i'm sure if you ducked the question, missed the question or just cant say. did he lose STR as a sponsor??

No, STR has nothing to do with it at all. Man, I agree...Rado does have plenty left. They fight the trany every pass from what ive been told. As far as 2 drivers goes, it really wasnt affecting anything. Reason is John drove the car at NHRA and Steven drove the car at nopi. They never trade off in a way that would be inconsistant. In fact its almost good as they both can give feedback.

rado and carlson are fighting the same trannies i think. once they get the tranny issues sorted out if ever. they will both be monsters with mopar being on top in the end obviously. i was told that tranny is like 35k and mopar went thru 2-3 so far. damn,i would liek to have their tranny money as a full budget for next season.

dick or not, john brown knows more about drag racing hondas than anyone on this board(no offense to the few on here that are truley knowledgable ala mike, tony, earl, str guys, ericks racing, etc.....). 2 tenths in his class means nothing because all of the cars are so inconsistent and on the edge of breaking constantly. just my opinion.

I dont take offense at all...i'd agree with you. John knows his ****. He has been building these things for a long time and going fast even before I was out of my mothers womb.

Sorry for the late reply been so busy building Drag Manifolds yall know the original beauties that produce some nice numbers in the dyno.
We are still backing John/Steven 100% when a guy is down you just don't walk away!! Those guys are't only are sponsored car but also our friends. I would never leave them or any car we sponsor out to dry. We have conflicting races therefore are unable to give the necessary track support for John at the NHRA. However the team gets full support at all NDRA Events and (Dinner John). We are happy to be working with John and Steven again and look forward to a new season and some great deals.

Laskey Racing owes a lot to John Brown for his help and hosptality with our race car. We would not have made a race without him. The funny thing is, even though we are team mates, I think he would do the same for just about any fellow racer. I'm sure the Holland team feels the same way. Thanks JB

John def. knows his ****, I bought his old car and the chassis is unbelievable. When ppl see, it even pro racers they cant believe the workmanship. Every detail is paid attention to. He has also built race and street motors for me and help put me in the 10's on a ghetto track when no other fwd can even make it the 11's here in Trini. We have learnt much from him. All i can say is $$ is a bitch especially when you dont have sponsers. I personally have done my own sponsering through my company with a little help from others but to say I could compete on a level like Jotech and Rado ...no way, just too expensive. Btw didnt john make 900hp in his castrol civic w/methanol.
