this might sound weird...but i have a 92 hatch w. a b16 and i/e/h..and a stage 2 clutch...my question is does anyone here get aftermarket parts w. ur engine..cuase my friend who got another b16 and he got an 8lb flywheel when we opended up his tranny..lol..weird huh? he has the b16 in a CRX and it doesn pull as hard as my car. dont b16 dies down like at 7500? my **** just pulls all the way to reline and still wanna pull. or i might just have an healthy motor...thats y i'm asking..i'm gonna check the cams to see if they are stock..how do i tell the diff. between stock and say CTR?

btw: both engines are JDM 2nd gen b16a

 

i have a 1st gen b16a, mines was stock but its a healthy one..

i have a friend that bought a second gen b16a that came with OS GIKEN flywheel.. also 8lbs...

People in Japan modify cars also, all that flywheel should tell you is that the engine was most likely abused.

not necessarily ................... if all they added was a flywheel why does that equal abuse?? check the internals, that should tell you what's really good? or not?

 

Most likely if you add performace parts to an engine you are going to be pushing it harder. Also think about it, they only have these engines for 30,000 or so miles, which means they can just abuse the **** out of them for that long and the motor will take it.

Edit: I am not saying your engine was abused, I am simply giving info on recent experiences.

 

I got a shortshifter and greddy Iridium plugs with my motor. Got rid of the plugs anyways though.

 

mine came with a greddy turbo kit j/k.. yeah if the motor has a lightened flywheel and other aftermarket goodies, then i'd say most likely the engine has been abused.. makes sense to me

Agreed. If I were to purchase a JDM motor, I hope it is bone stock.

 

When my motor came in I was SOOO happy to see that it was bone stock and healthy. Damn it pulls good.

Aftermarket parts just scream "I've been raped!"

 

same here 2nd gen b16a jdm and it pulls past 8k but my tach could be off ... anyway it feels strong to me i say for a torqueless wonder that a b16 is ..

 

Do a compression test... Like it was said before if it has aftermarket parts, chances are it's been abused.
