Differences between earlier gsr trannys vs later model trannys

I have a 93 gsr, and my 3rd sycro is off and grinding. A friend of mine tells me to fix it and not get a new one, becuase those trannys are better than the latter versions..

anyone know why, or have any useful insight?

well, cant say if its better or not, but the 2nd gen gsr trannies have closer gearings then the 3rd gens.
