Oscoda Pro Solo recap
Well, it was an interesting weekend to say the least. The weather kinda sucked: dry, but cool Saturday morning and Sunday morning; rained heavy on Saturday afternoon (called 6th heat and they had 2nd runs on Sunday morning). There was quite a bit of puddling on the left course so Aahj and I fashioned a short ram intake from my AEM CAI to be safe and ran that all weekend. Sunday afternoon for the challenges, the sun came out and it warmed up a lot.
Quite a few H-Ters there. Nate wound up 3rd in a heavily contested STS, just .070 out of first (Fitzpatrick, BMW) and .013 out of second (Wagner, 91 Si), showing that the 93 Coupe can be competitive in the class. Chris Shenefield was 4th, just .159 behind Nate, coning away the win on his last left side run and DNFing on his last right side.
KC was third in STX .9XX out of first and .065 from second in the Wagoneer...
I managed to pull out the win in DSP by .089 over the BimmerHaus 330Ci driven by Vic Michaels. Just .023 behind him was his co-driver, and Aahj was .350 behind him in 4th. Sadly, we were a bit off the pace from where we should have been. Not really sure why but we are going to look over the suspension this week before Peru.
The courses were not to my liking at all. Really fast on the way out (about 12 bumps on the limiter in 2nd) to the turn around, then kinda slow on the way back.
I met up with Nate in the first round of the challenge. My first run I nearly had to park it on the way out after the back end got away from me. I managed to stay on course and not hit any cones, but Nate had me by 1.6 seconds. Couldn't make that up on the second run, but Nate pushed it pretty hard and broke out on both sides. Cold street tires, 1 - Cold Hoosiers 0. Not sure how far he went, but I think Nate got pretty deep into the Challenge.
That's about it. Looking forward to Peru next week. Hope we can find out what our issue is with the car.

Awesome
I'll be going up against that car in Washington at the Bremerton National Tour. I know I don't have near the driving skill you have Mike but I'll try to do my best.

Cool...that car is wicked fast in a straight line, but they are beatable. I wish I could go to the Wendover Pro...Fauth, Butts and the 330ci....should be very interesting.
Good luck!!
Good luck!!
Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, coolest car at the event: RWD, Supercharged V8 Ford Cobra powered, Ford FOCUS! That thing was NAAAS-TY! When we first got to the site he was doing practice starts and I had to do a double take when I saw him smoking the REAR tires and steeping the REAR end out. According to the owner (I think he is a Ford engineer) its the first and only one they've made thus far. Nearyly 500hp to the flywheel and about 475 ft.lbs of torque. Neat little car... AND it has A/C and it blows cold...
edit: here is the link to the car. You can have one for only $69,000 PLUS a donor Focus

i made it to the 3rd round but got eliminated when i redlighted on the right side against matt braun in his AS corvette. ended up second in the streetchallenge, which was won by tom hoppe. also the winner of the superchallenge and the top placing suby. the purse he took home was close to $2k. if you wanna make a lot of prize money in the pro's, drive a suby in stx, and then figure out how to beat tom.
i did learn something this weekend. my car's handling and my driving are pretty close to where they should be. i'm just down on power. _way_ down. chris let me take his car around the block once and i nearly shat myself when i floored it. i would have to say his car is putting to the road the same amount of power my car is, but of course his car is 200lbs lighter. so now, no more spending money on spension, it's time to buy the fun stuff! horsepower and broken parts, here i come! i fully expect 10hp boost and 40lbs less weight. 50lbs if i can stick to my diet and loose that extra 10lbs i've been wanting to shed.

Is it just me or does that brake pedal look REAL far from the gas pedal? Seems like you would need size 45 feet to try and heel/toe. I wonder if that is the stock pedal placement, or a result of the conversion...?

Body reinforced with welded subframe connectors
Custom tubular K-member
Custom strut tower brace
Modified rear IRS cradle
Most of those sounds illegal for SM to me.
Does SM2 allow different K-members and such? Or am I confusing that with subframe braces (although I think those are legal whereas modified K-members are not, correct)?
Been a while since I have checked SM rules.

The boy drove pretty well this past weekend for his first time on concrete.

I didn't man up this past weekend like I was supposed to. I better pull something out of my *** for this upcoming weekend against the blue sled in Peru. I just found out too that I won't have to work Friday, so I won't miss anything again if we leave Thursday night.
Aahj, who has had 2 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours. Getting to work at 8 am this morning was rough. I fell asleep on the ground outside under a car that I was doing an oil change on.

Those who went to Oscoeda - didn't you find the concrete not very grippy for concrete? When I was there two years ago I was very disappointed in the surface. It looked great but the grip was only average.

Very impressive
I had the opportunity to talk to one of the drivers of that 330Ci at Solo Trials hear in Colorado, and as I'm sure you know they have done extensive work to that car. Not just suspension, but mild transmission and engine upgrades.

yeah, it SHOULD be a killer car, but that's the second time I've beaten it. I think they are getting better in it tho...see if I can do it again next week in Peru.
