Just looking for some experiance with this... I can find them and clean them, but I dont want to mess anything up (say by using a solvent I shouldent) and what are you really looking for that you want to clean??

You want to clean out the mess of carbon buildup. I used a dental pick and spray-Carb Cleaner. I'd wear eye protection and a mask when using the spray.
The carbon itself has the consistency of flaky-goo. You poke-it and it falls down into the chamber. Ideally, if you had a shop vac with a needle nose type of attachment (improvise here w/ a straw or small tube?), that would be ideal to suck out the fallen carbon bits before really hitting it with the Carb Cleaner.

for 94-97 cars you have to remove the fuel rail. it is best to get all the loose crap out and use a wire pipe cleaner to cleam out each opening.....I would avoid using a shop vac once you have sprayed carb cleaner in there......

Clogged EGR ports can cause a hesitation at part throttle while driving or they can cause emmision test failures.
