Who ever put the pistons in did a bad job. Your rings are not seating. If your going to get bottom end work done, take it to a good shop. The smoke is the sign of your rings having blow by. Only way to remedy this is to have the bottom end rebuilt. Sorry to break the news to you. Do a compression check also. And then a leak down test. This will verify if my prediction is right.

Why is it always the shops fault?

What brand of rings are you using?

How many miles did the LS block have on it?

How bad did you cry when the shop said it would be $$$ to send it to a MS to have it ?????? so the rings would seat?

i agree with FUCATYPR. you can't always blame the shop. did you break in the motor correctly and let the rings seat properly????

White smoke = water or coolant.

Does the smoke smell sweet?
if it does then antifreeze is in there. Not piston rings, I'd look at the head gasket. . . . compression test = good call!

First of all like WOTTEG said white smoke ISN'T oil its coolant/water... its probably your head gasket ... no biggie. However what the hell were you thinking using the same rings? I'm replacing bearings that only have 53 miles on them just for piece of mind (well some i want looser clearances) and they are $380 for the set (didnt' pay that tho thank god). When ever you put new pistons in you should always replace your rings and rehone. When doing the compression test dump a capful of oil into the chamber through the plug hole then crank it over and read the compression. Do this only if you have lower compression on that cylinder. If it shoots up to close to the other cylinders you know its your rings. This pretty much simulates a temporarily good oil ring seal. On my b18a i had 210psi across the board then I had 155 on #3... put a cap full of crappy oil in and it shot to 210psi on the dot. A head gasket is much easier than new rings so make sure you know what you need before you attempt.

BTW: look at my location.. im pretty damn close to you.. if you need some help give me a hollar... most of the shops around me are **** and don't know **** IMO (driver's image dosen't carry JUN products -- A few other shops have blown motors on dynos -- some of them are asses etc)
