Default Odd outcome of a race... question for my friend

I have a friend who drives a 93 Civic Hatch with the following mods:

94 OBD-1 GSR engine swap
Reprogrammed ECU
Vtec controller (some Japan name brand)
AEM v2 intake
OBX Header
Tanabe Catback Exhaust
Clutchmasters Stage 3 clutch
Vis coilovers with tokico adj. struts
all strut braces
17 in. Arospeed rims

Basically, it's a pretty quick little car. But one of our other friend's got a 2001 Prelude SH with axle back exhaust and Motegi mr7's.

Well, they raced 3 times and each time, the prelude won by like 1-2 car links depending on speed. He's almost completely stock too, so how does this happen. The hatch driver is a way better driver.

Well, he comes out the other morning and finds his intake wasn't even connected to the throttle body so he says that's why he lost... I don't really believe it but is there any reason this went down the way it did?

Any opinions are more than welcome

But without the intake being hooked up he loses that bad? That would be pretty extreme. I didn't think SH's were that fast

And he is a good driver, so factor that out.

Anyone have a general list of cars that gsr-swapped hatches contest with?

1. 17" wheels are heavy, he's running a 205/40R17 and getting little to no traction from the low profile.

2. He's got coilovers, so he's probably slammed. Slammed = alot of camber. Camber = extremely shitty contact patch due to inward tilted wheel. You want the tire flat on the ground for straight line, if its angled, he's losing alot of tire/ground contact.

3. vtec controller and reprogrammed ecu. Pick one. Unless he's changed the valve train to withstand a higher RPM he doesn't need the chipped ECU. If the Vtec controller isnt tuned, its probably hurting him.

4. OBX!

My recommendations. Get 15's w/ sticky tires, get a camber kit or raise the car back up 2 inches, and get a stock ECU. That engine STOCK in an EG should pull 1-2 cars on the lude. Tell him to put it back to stock.

Let me elaborate a little more on the car, I think I left out a few details.

The car has a reprogrammed ecu, but retains the stock redline. It has modified fuel maps and for some reason he thinks he's running too rich.... don't know how he'd know that.

Both cars have heavy *** 17's so they both factor each other out.

During the races, the vtec controller wasn't hooked up and when it is, it isn't tuned right.

Yes, the suspension is pretty low and it cambers hard. But, none of the races were from a stand still I think they went from a 1st gear roll, 40 mph and 60 mph. Each time the same results.

For some reason he has the idea that an s-avc (never even heard of, but I'm slow) will cure his problem and maybe buying a stock gsr ecu but I don't know where the s-avc( what?) will help. I really have no clue.

well you need to stil look at the suspension set ups even thought they both have 17 inch rims. also why tell us he has a vtec controller thats not hooked up. and when you say he is a good driver do you mean he has no tickets or he can race.

also what is a "s-avc" do you mean s-afc. because thats not a vtec controller

Right off the bat, I say get rid of those heavy-*** Arospeed 17s.
Get a real header. Even the DC Sports JDM 4-1 header will work well.
Make sure his intake is "connected" and working properly.
If he loses again, tell him to practice driving..

Sounds like your friend needs to get his car running properly. That VTEC controller ain't worth **** unless tuned..

I live in fraklin tn if you need some help tuning the car. It sounds like to me there is a problem with the tuning. Your friend could take it downtown and put it on the dyno and tune it if he buys a fuel computer(s-afc? might be what he is talking about). The gsr hatch should beat the prelude. The prelude is very heavy compared to the civic.

I did not even read any replies to this, nor did I even finish the first post.

As soon as you listed Motegi MR7s as a mod to a Prelude I lost interest.

Re-read the forum rules - NO car vs. car topic - PERIOD!

This means you too bro.
